Description

We are seeking an experienced Accountant for a contract opportunity with a nonprofit organization in Glastonbury, Connecticut. This position will play an important role in improving daily accounting operations, ensuring the accuracy of financial data, and bringing structure to key bookkeeping processes. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger activity, and reconciliations, along with the ability to work independently and manage detailed financial records with accuracy.

Responsibilities:

Review and organize existing QuickBooks records to correct inconsistencies and improve overall financial accuracy.

Manage accounts payable activities, including verifying invoices, preparing entries, and supporting timely disbursements.

Oversee accounts receivable processes by recording incoming funds and maintaining accurate customer or donor balances.

Prepare and post journal entries to ensure transactions are properly reflected in the general ledger.

Complete bank reconciliations and investigate discrepancies to keep cash records current and reliable.

Maintain the integrity of the general ledger by identifying errors, adjusting balances, and supporting clean month-end records.

Assist with bookkeeping clean-up efforts for the nonprofit client by bringing historical accounting data into proper order.

Requirements - Experience performing accounting support work in a detail-focused environment, ideally with exposure to nonprofit operations.

Working knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger activities.

Ability to prepare journal entries accurately and in accordance with standard accounting practices.

Experience completing bank reconciliations and resolving variances in a timely manner.

Proficiency with QuickBooks and confidence in reviewing historical accounting records for accuracy.

Strong attention to detail with the ability to organize financial information and prioritize tasks effectively.
