Summary About the Position: Serve as a Maintenance Worker for the project office to which assigned. The maintenance staff operate and maintain one or more flood control dams. Relocation and recruitment incentives may be offered to highly qualified candidates. On-site government housing may be available. Responsibilities Perform a variety of maintenance, repair and operational duties for the park office to which assigned. Apply a variety of standardized methods, procedures and techniques to maintain and repair equipment. Inspect circuit breakers and fuses for proper condition and size, replacing defective breakers. Weld similar metal components together to fabricate or repair equipment. Construct, install, repair or modify items and structures. Repair, replace and maintain such things as pipe, tile, union joints, faucets and drains. Dam operation: Collect humidity, temperature and wind velocity readings from weather instruments. Make gate settings to regulate outflow of water. Perform routine maintenance and repair. Operate a variety of vehicles and vessels. I have experience as a maintenance worker performing common dam operation, maintenance inspection and repair work on a continuing basis on mechanical equipment, utility systems, buildings, and/or other appurtenant structures and property at park and flood control dam facilities under the normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level maintenance worker who observes tasks in progress to ensure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort Uses moderate physical effort to stack, load, unload, move and carry tools, equipment and materials ranging in weight from 10 pounds to 50 pounds unassisted. Occasionally lifts heavier objects with assistance (e.g., using a hand truck). Required to reach, walk, stand, stoop, bend, kneel, crawl and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Occasionally works in cramped quarters, or from ladders, scaffolds or platforms. Working Conditions Work is performed inside and outside in all @types of weather (e.g., heat, cold, rain, wind, etc.) and usually in a dirty, dusty and/or greasy environment. Incumbent is exposed to the possibility of broken bones, electrical shocks, burns, cuts bruises, maimed fingers and scrapes. Occasionally is required to wear uncomfortable protective clothing. Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
