Job Title: Senior Electromechanical Engineering Technologist (On-Site in Wichita, KS)
Job Description
This Senior Electromechanical Engineering Technologist role leads the design and development of electric motors, actuators, and electromagnetic devices for aerospace and defense applications. You will own products from initial concept through production release, including detailed design, simulation, prototyping, testing, qualification, and sustaining engineering. The position focuses on motor and actuator design, electromagnetic simulation and analysis, and full product development and qualification while collaborating closely with cross-functional teams across engineering, manufacturing, quality, and test.
Responsibilities
Lead the design and development of electric motors, actuators, resolvers, and related electromagnetic devices for aerospace and defense applications.
Perform electromagnetic simulations, testing, and performance analysis to optimize motor and actuator designs.
Support proto@type builds by providing hands-on guidance, troubleshooting issues, and refining designs based on test results.
Plan and execute qualification activities to ensure products meet high-reliability aerospace and defense standards.
Create clear and accurate engineering documentation, including drawings, specifications, and technical reports.
Develop and maintain electromechanical product designs from concept through production release and sustaining engineering.
Collaborate closely with manufacturing, quality, and test teams to resolve technical challenges and ensure manufacturability and reliability.
Contribute to reliability analysis activities, including FMEA and MTBF assessments, where applicable.
Participate in cross-functional design reviews and provide technical leadership on motor development programs.
Manage multiple programs and priorities simultaneously while maintaining strong documentation and attention to detail.
Communicate effectively with internal and external customers to understand requirements, present technical solutions, and support product adoption.
Support production transition and qualification testing activities to ensure smooth handoff from development to manufacturing.
Essential Skills
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, or a closely related field.
5-7+ years of experience in motor design or electromagnetic product design.
Proven experience supporting products from concept through production release and sustaining engineering.
Strong background in electrical engineering and mechanical engineering principles as they apply to electromechanical systems.
Hands-on experience in electric motor design and actuator design.
Proficiency in electromagnetic analysis and simulation for motors and actuators.
Experience with electromechanical product development, including electromagnetic simulation and motor development.
Familiarity with motor drives and power electronics at a level sufficient to support integration with electromechanical products.
Experience with reliability analysis methods such as FMEA and MTBF in an engineering @context.
Demonstrated ability to support proto@type builds, including troubleshooting and resolving design and test issues.
Strong documentation skills with high attention to detail in drawings, specifications, and reports.
Hands-on troubleshooting and testing mindset, comfortable working in lab environments.
Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and test functions.
Strong customer-facing communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly.
Ability to manage multiple projects, programs, and priorities simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with Ansys Maxwell, Ansys Electronics Desktop, RMxprt, or Simcenter Magnet for electromagnetic simulation.
background in motor drives and power electronics integration for electromechanical systems.
Experience performing FMEA and MTBF reliability analysis for high-reliability products.
Familiarity with aerospace and defense qualification standards such as DO-160 and MIL-STD-810.
Experience with PCB design and layout for electromechanical or power electronics applications.
Proficiency with Mathcad or similar engineering calculation tools.
Experience using configuration management tools such as Adept or comparable systems.

Work Environment
The role is based in Wichita, KS within a business focused on motors and actuators for high-reliability applications. You will work in a mixed engineering lab and office environment, supporting both development and sustaining programs. The position involves regular hands-on work in the lab, including proto@type builds, troubleshooting, testing, and qualification activities, as well as time spent in an office setting for design, analysis, documentation, and collaboration with cross-functional teams. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Detroit, MI.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $70.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
