Summary This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base (DIB) & Major Range and Test Facilities Base (MRTFB) in DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.? About the Position: This position serves as a Sheet Metal Mechanic Leader, the primary purpose of this position is to apply welding skills to sheet metal items that need to be fabricated, installed or repaired. Responsibilities Determines the design required and plans steps required to accomplish the job. Fabricate unconventional metal parts. Performs welder duties using electric, acetylene and/or inert gas shield welding process. Create complex templates and patterns. Interpret oral or written instructions, drawings and sketches. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Sheet Metal Mechanic without more than normal supervision. Duties which include 1. Performing welder duties using electric, acetylene and/or inert gas shield welding process; 2. Repairing metal items.; and 3. Demonstrating proper work methods. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Efforts: Work requires standing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, reaching and often times working from ladders and scaffolds; often lifting objects weighing 50 lbs. and more; and often working in awkward and cramped positions for long periods of time. Working Conditions: Performs work indoors and outdoors, from extreme hot to extreme cold, from clean areas to extra-hot and dirty areas. Incumbent is exposed to possible injury from burns, falls, strains, cuts and bruises. Employees working in asbestos are frequently required to wear respiratory protection, coveralls, disposable outer garments, gloves and safety boots or shoes. The level of protective equipment is dependent on the measured exposures or operational needs. Education Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. This position requires a 1 year probationary period during which the agency evaluates your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest. In making this determination, the agency may consider your performance and conduct; agency needs and interests; whether your continued employment supports organizational or Government goals; and whether it promotes the efficiency of the Federal service. Continued employment requires written certification that it advances the public interest. Direct deposit of pay is required. This is a Logistics Career Field position. Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees.
