Job Title: Electrical Engineering Project Manager
Job Description
The Electrical Engineering Project Manager leads custom high-voltage testing equipment projects from initial design through final delivery. This role combines deep electrical engineering expertise with hands-on project leadership to drive execution, manage schedules, and ensure complex systems operating at up to 70,000 volts and 10,000 amps are delivered on time, within scope, and to exacting safety and quality standards. You will work in a fast-paced environment, proactively conduct project reviews, coordinate cross-functional teams, and collaborate directly with customers, vendors, and shop personnel to create custom-engineered solutions for demanding industrial and utility applications.
Responsibilities
Lead end-to-end execution of custom high-voltage testing equipment projects from concept, design, and engineering through build, commissioning, and delivery.
Own electrical design for high-voltage and high-current systems, including creation and modification of detailed electrical drawings and schematics using AutoCAD Electrical.
Design custom machines and test equipment tailored to customer-supplied parts and specifications, ensuring compatibility with manufacturing and testing environments.
Develop and review test fixtures and systems capable of handling up to 70,000 volts and 10,000 amps, with a strong emphasis on safety, reliability, and repeatability.
Conduct regular project reviews, track milestones, and manage project schedules to maintain accountability and ensure on-time completion.
Manage project deliverables, including bills of materials (BOM), engineering documentation, and change management records.
Coordinate with vendors for components, equipment, and services, ensuring timely procurement and alignment with technical requirements.
Collaborate closely with customers to understand application needs, define requirements, present technical solutions, and provide ongoing project updates.
Work with shop personnel and cross-functional teams to translate designs into practical builds, resolve technical issues, and support assembly and testing activities.
Implement and maintain electrical safety best practices, including lockout/tagout procedures and safe operation in high-energy testing environments.
Oversee PLC programming, controls engineering, HMI development, and panel design for industrial automation and test systems.
Support design and integration of test equipment for electric utilities, power generation, power distribution, and electric motor applications, from small HVAC units to large industrial pumps.
Manage change requests and scope adjustments, communicating impacts to timelines and deliverables and updating project plans accordingly.
Drive continuous improvement and process enhancement in project execution, engineering practices, and shop-floor workflows.
Contribute to the development and refinement of company processes and standards, leveraging project insights to improve efficiency and quality.
Provide customer-facing support throughout the project lifecycle, addressing technical questions, clarifying requirements, and ensuring customer satisfaction.
Engage in vendor management activities, including evaluation of suppliers, coordination of deliveries, and resolution of technical or logistical issues.
Promote and model a strong safety culture in high-voltage and high-current testing environments, recognizing that missteps can be severe and potentially fatal.
Position yourself for growth into a leadership role by taking broad ownership of projects, demonstrating initiative, and influencing technical and operational decisions.
Essential Skills
Strong electrical engineering expertise with hands-on experience in high-voltage and high-current systems.
Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical, including the ability to create and modify electrical drawings and schematics.
Experience in custom machine design, specifically customer-specific equipment used in manufacturing and testing environments.
Demonstrated project management capabilities, including weekly project reviews, milestone tracking, deliverable management, BOM management, vendor coordination, and change management.
Experience with PLC programming for industrial automation and test equipment.
Experience controls engineering, including integration of sensors, actuators, and control systems.
Ability to design and develop human-machine interfaces (HMI) for industrial and test applications.
Experience in panel design for industrial automation and test systems.
Knowledge of test equipment design, particularly for high-voltage and high-current applications.
Exposure to or experience in the utility industry, including electric utilities and power systems.
Experience in power generation and power distribution environments.
Ability to work directly with customers, vendors, and shop personnel in a fast-paced, project-driven setting.

Work Environment
You will work in a small, close-knit engineering and operations team of approximately 11 people based in Fenton, where there is significant opportunity for growth, leadership, and direct impact on company outcomes. The environment emphasizes custom-engineered solutions for high-voltage and high-current products serving electric utilities, electric motors ranging from small HVAC units to massive pumps, and end-of-line quality testing equipment. Projects often involve designing and building specialized test fixtures for customer-supplied parts, including applications such as firing 70,000 volts through bushings and performing high-current tests. You will experience broad project ownership, high visibility, direct access to leadership, and the ability to drive meaningful change with less bureaucracy than is typical in larger organizations.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $39.00 - $53.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
