About Evansville State Hospital:
Evansville State Hospital is one of the Indiana State Psychiatric Hospitals who are committed to the mission of Hope and Recovery. Residing on 88 acres on the east side of Evansville, Ind., our facility provides medical treatment for chronic mental illness and substance abuse disorders from our dedicated team of psychiatrists and advanced practice professionals. Active Treatment helps our patients achieve their goals directed towards living in the most non-restrictive environment possible.
Our team of professionals assist our patients in the treatment process involving medical staff, nursing, psychology, social work, rehabilitation therapy and our community integration program. Evansville State Hospital continues to maintain accreditation through The Joint Commission as an Inpatient Psychiatric Hospital as well as Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services certification as a Psychiatric Medicare/Medicaid Hospital.
Role Overview:
The Communications Operator is responsible for the operation of the Evansville State Hospital switchboard, including receptionist duties also. Shift hours are Monday- Thursday 8:00 AM- 6:00 PM.
Salary:

A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this role are as follows:
Maintains constant radio contact with security officers, vehicles, and fixed security installations.
Obtains and provides information for security officers from departmental files such as employee vehicle decal numbers and the location of employees and patients.
Maintains constant surveillance of all frequencies monitored.
Contacts and dispatches emergency vehicles as needed.
Tests various alarm systems within the facility on a regular schedule.
Performs minor repairs and maintenance on such electronic equipment as radios (base and mobile units) and recommends the replacement of defective equipment.
Obtains and disseminates weather information of a routine and emergency nature.
Notifies all key personnel necessary to implement the hospital disaster plan if an emergency exists.
Monitors smoke and heat-@type fire alarm annunciator panels and relays current information to the local fire department when necessary.
Types log of all notable incidents occurring during each shift and prepares incident and fire reports.
Answers phones, gives information to the public and provides information to local policy agencies concerning patients who leave grounds without proper authorization.
Provides keys to secured areas at night and on weekends to authorized personnel.

What You'll Need for Success:
Individuals in this role should minimally be able to articulate or demonstrate the following:
Working knowledge of agency and facility rules and regulations pertinent to information dissemination.
Thorough knowledge of the geography of the grounds and roadways and the location of all buildings within the complex.
Working knowledge of Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulations and laws.
Working knowledge of radio equipment operation and repair.
Ability to maintain composure and make accurate decisions in emergencies.
Ability to prepare accurate reports and keep files.
Ability to deal with the public and local police agency representatives using tact and making independent judgments when required.
Effectively communicate, both orally and in writing.
A degree is not required.
Individuals should have the ability to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:
This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
