Job Title: 1st Shift Casting/Foundry Maintenance Technician
Job Description
This role focuses on maintaining and repairing casting and foundry equipment on the casting side of a high-volume manufacturing plant. The technician diagnoses and resolves electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues on production machinery, performs preventative maintenance, and supports continuous, safe operation of casting machinery and related equipment. The position is multi-craft and hands-on, working with industrial electricity, conveyors, hydraulics, and other critical systems to keep production running efficiently.
Responsibilities
Troubleshoot and repair industrial electrical systems ranging from 24V DC up to 480V three-phase, including controls, starters, overloads, relays, variable frequency drives (VFDs), motors, and sensors.
Perform mechanical troubleshooting and repairs on chains and drive components, vibrating conveyors, belt conveyors, roller conveyors, and other mechanical systems used in casting and foundry operations.
Diagnose and repair hydraulic systems, including valves and associated components, and support maintenance of pneumatic systems as needed.
Conduct industrial maintenance on casting and production machinery, ensuring equipment operates safely, reliably, and at optimal performance.
Perform preventative maintenance tasks on all assigned equipment, following established schedules, procedures, and documentation requirements.
Read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and blueprints to identify issues and guide repairs and modifications.
Support maintenance and repair activities on precision machining equipment and robots when required, in coordination with production needs.
Assist with troubleshooting and basic programming or adjustments on PLC-controlled equipment, as experience allows.
Apply lockout/tagout procedures and other safety protocols during maintenance work to ensure a safe working environment.
Identify root causes of equipment failures and recommend improvements or corrective actions to reduce downtime.
Collaborate with production and other maintenance team members to prioritize work orders and respond to equipment breakdowns in a timely manner.
Use appropriate test equipment, such as insulation testers (Meggers), meters, and diagnostic tools, to evaluate electrical and mechanical systems.
Support fabrication and welding tasks when needed to repair or modify equipment, fixtures, or components.
Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, parts usage, and equipment status in accordance with plant requirements.
Participate in occasional overtime and weekend work to support production demands and scheduled maintenance activities.
Essential Skills
At least 5 years of casting or foundry experience working directly with furnace or casting operations.
At least 5 years of maintenance experience on casting machinery and related production equipment.
Strong industrial maintenance experience, including troubleshooting and repairing production machinery and equipment.
Hands-on mechanical maintenance experience, including maintenance and repair of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
Electrical maintenance experience with industrial electricity, including work on up to 480-volt, three-phase motors and wiring.
Ability to troubleshoot and repair electrical controls, starters, overloads, relays, VFDs, motors, and sensors.
Experience performing preventative maintenance on industrial equipment in a manufacturing environment.
Ability to read and interpret schematics, blueprints, and technical drawings for electrical and mechanical systems.
Practical knowledge of lockout/tagout procedures and when they must be applied.
Understanding of AC and DC electricity and the differences in application and behavior.
Ability to diagnose issues such as motors running in the wrong direction and implement proper corrective actions.
Familiarity with proximity switches and their configurations, including NPN and PNP, sinking and sourcing @types.
Experience working in a multi-craft environment with both mechanical and electrical responsibilities.
Comfort working in a casting/foundry environment that may be dirty due to the nature of the process.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with induction furnaces is a strong plus.
Some PLC knowledge and experience working with PLC-controlled equipment.
Exposure to robots and robotic controllers, including experience with Fanuc controllers and specific series, is beneficial.
Experience with precision machining equipment and an understanding of M code and G code is advantageous.
Ability to work with hydraulic and pneumatic systems at varying pressures and explain prior experience with highest pressures handled.
Knowledge of industrial safety concepts such as arc flash and how to work safely around energized equipment.
Experience using a Megger or other insulation testing equipment for electrical diagnostics.
Experience in fabrication and welding, including the ability to describe @types of welding performed, is a plus.
Experience changing ball screws and working on motion control systems is beneficial.
Ability to answer detailed technical questions about PLCs, industrial electricity, casting machinery, robots, machining equipment, hydraulics, pneumatics, proximity switches, and control codes as part of the qualification process.
No formal degree is required; high-level hands-on maintenance experience in casting, furnace, or foundry environments is valued.

Work Environment
The role is based on the casting side of a Tier 1 automotive manufacturing facility that supplies brake rotors, operating in a non-union, multi-craft environment. The position works 1st shift from 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with minimal overtime typically totaling 40-45 hours per week and occasional weekend work for overtime. The environment is a foundry setting and can be dirty due to the nature of casting operations, with exposure to heat, dust, and industrial noise. The technician supports both casting and machining operations, working around industrial machinery, conveyors, furnaces, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, robots, and precision machining equipment. Uniforms are provided at no cost, with multiple sets supplied depending on department, supporting appropriate attire for an industrial maintenance role. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $28.00/hr.
