Our Mission
Our mission is to ensure the physical, operational and financial integrity of the regional flood risk management system, in southeastern Louisiana as a defense against floods and storm surge from hurricanes. We accomplish this mission by working with local, regional, state and federal partners to plan, design, construct, operate and maintain projects that will reduce the probability and risk of flooding for the residents and businesses within our jurisdiction.
About This Position
The HVAC/Refrigeration Mechanic is responsible for providing advanced journeyman level work in multiple trades, including HVAC, plumbing, machinist, and welding. This includes troubleshooting issues in the maintenance of buildings and all related structures. Responsibilities encompass diagnosing problems, implementing effective solutions, and ensuring that all systems are functioning efficiently. The incumbent must be self-motivated. Tasks may be performed at SLFPA-E facilities or within Jefferson, Orleans and St. Bernard Parishes.
Minimum Qualifications
Three years of experience or training in the installation and/or maintenance of heating, ventilating, or air conditioning systems.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
Performs major and advanced repairs on all @types of heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC).
Replaces and modifies existing HVAC and refrigeration equipment of all sizes. Installs new equipment of all sizes.
Conducts air balancing in HVAC distribution systems.
Operates, regulates and adjusts domestic and hot water boilers, circulating pumps, chillers, and refrigeration systems associated with building operation. Regulates flow and starts/stops pumps, chillers, hot water systems, etc., associated with HVAC and refrigeration systems.
Position serves in lead worker capacity when working with contractors or other trades personnel.
Performs periodic preventative maintenance on equipment to provide required inspection, lubrication and adjustments. Processes include amping motors, adding refrigerant, adjusting controls, changing and cleaning filters, calibrating thermostats and cleaning coils.
The incumbent must have a valid driver's license.
HVAC certification is preferred but not required.
NOTE: The Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority - East (SLFPA-E) is an emergency-oriented agency. Part of the SLFPA-E's mission is to protect the residents of the east-bank of Jefferson Parish, St. Bernard and the east-bank of Orleans from tidal surge, wind-driven water and river flooding. In emergencies during Mississippi River flooding and Hurricane/Tropical storm events, the incumbent will be on call and must report for duty if so required, remain on duty in such situations until released from duty by the Appointing authority.
