Director, Software Engineering, Stores (Philadelphia, PA)

Take full ownership of complex projects, ensuring definition, documentation, and the use of appropriate project management tools and processes. Oversee project resources, financials, and effectively manage the expectations of key stakeholders. Manage department budgets, invoices and allocations, inclusive of alignment to appropriate business initiative/capability. Identify and address stakeholder communication needs, translating engagement strategies into actionable deliverables. Serve as a primary contact for stakeholders, facilitating open discussions, promoting understanding, and disseminating key technical and business information. Oversee vendor relationships, ensuring performance aligns with key indicators, and address potential disputes or conflicts proactively. Utilize vendor performance data for benchmarking, informing development roadmaps with vendor expertise, and managing service improvements while considering contract negotiations. Contribute to solution architectures across specific domains, evaluating alternatives based on cost, performance, and scalability, while documenting key decisions. Craft specifications for both cloud and on-premises components and ensure that solutions align with enterprise architecture standards, including security, while supporting project and change initiatives with technical plans. Ensure team follows the corporate information security policies, standards, and guidelines, ensuring architectural principles are applied during design to reduce risk and drive their adoption and adherence. Develop code, scripts, and designs per business requirements when needed. Conduct and lead design, code, and configuration reviews. Participate in Agile rituals including daily standups, iteration planning, story huddles, retrospectives, creation of burn up chart's inceptions, documenting technical work in technical stories using JIRA board, and estimating (using agile points/story sizing techniques) the work effort required to complete those stories. Design complex software applications, components and modules using appropriate modelling techniques following agreed software design standards, guidelines, patterns and methodology. Develop roadmaps to communicate future development activity. Provide technical leadership, coaching, and mentoring to onshore and offshore team members. Conduct market research, competitor analysis, and stay ahead of emerging trends. Oversee/coordinate supporting technical work required with other Five Below IT teams, including infrastructure (e.g., network, DevOps) and upstream and downstream system owners (warehouse management systems, order management systems, InfoSec, etc.). Collaborate with product and system teams to ensure thorough test coverage and identify areas for process enhancement. Analyze and report on test outcomes, including results, challenges, and risks, even when reviewing others' work. Plan and drive development projects which support the organization's objectives and plans. Identify and evaluate alternative design options and trade-offs. Create multiple design views to address the concerns of the different stakeholders and to handle functional and non-functional requirements. Lead the design and refinement of complex software configurations for deployment, collaborating on method and tool selection, ensuring adherence to standards for quality outcomes, and actively engaging in both self-review and peer-review processes. Collaborate closely with the operations team to conduct root cause analysis on intricate challenges, ensuring a thorough understanding and resolution. Lead the planning and design of release packages, collaborating with teams on scheduling and post-release reviews, and ensuring effective release processes and procedures, including rollback capabilities. Identify, evaluate, and manage the adoption of appropriate release and deployment techniques, processes, and automation tools. May work remotely.

Requires a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a closely related field and 5 years of IT experience. Must have experience with: retail industry; retail systems and infrastructure including merchandising, planning, reporting, analytics and store operations; on-premises and cloud infrastructure solutions; solution consulting; omnichannel implementation including Xstore POS, Order Management System, Order Broker, and Customer Engagement; stakeholder management, team coordination, and delivery of IT solutions; transformation projects including introducing new business processes; Java; Spring; Kafka; Microsoft Azure; and Oracle Retail.
