Requisition Summary
The Senior Lead interior Industrial Designer is responsible for providing concepts, design and oversight for the Interior programs and projects including advanced technology projects and subprojects through production. Presentations and delivery of product visions to internal and external customers.
Closely collaborates with Engineering, Digital Modeling teams and the Clay Modeling staff to ensure the design intent is captured in both digital surface models and physical model properties through all phases of the design and product creation process. Leverage Artificial Intelligence to maximize productivity.
Highly skilled and knowledgeable in industrial design and product development initiatives with the expertise and experience in the creative and technical aspects of a product's design from concept through production. Reports to the Chief Designer informally daily with weekly formal design reviews with the Design Director as required. Close collaboration with the Exterior design team to optimize holistic design solutions.
Job Responsibilities
Create and implement innovative design solutions for future and current Peterbilt truck interior designs, including advanced technology projects and subprojects.
Experience with User Interface (UI), User Experience (UX), Brand Management and Colors, Materials & Finish (CMF) research and implementation.
Knowledge and skills to independently execute multiple programs and projects through all phases of design and product development from concept through to production implementation.
Work closely with the Digital Modelers and Modeling Staff, and engage all internal and external customers, suppliers, and stakeholders through design development to ensure the design intent and objectives are met
Provide design direction as necessary to follow up development of 3D CAD models and scale models to ensure a high level of surface refinement and quality of design
Work jointly with studio designers, modelers, product planners and engineering to achieve the stated goals, and promoting clear and concise communication about project deliverables and timelines ensuring milestones are met
Be able to communicate designs concepts through sketches and renderings and make formal presentations to Executive Level Management and internal and external customers. Document meeting highlights and action items
Additional Job Responsibilities
Develop and effectively manage the scheduling for projects/programs including efficient & timely completion. Assess project/programs priorities and adjust assignments as necessary to maintain project objectives
Well adept in understanding the manufacturing processes, materials, and assembly and can design within the constraints
Demonstrate professional and successful communication skills (verbal/written/visual) with strong and effective interpersonal abilities
Able to identify, prioritize, and coordinate resolution of design feasibility between Industrial Design and Engineering Groups
Remain abreast of automotive and industry trends and technologies to enhance a competitive advantage
Demonstrate ability to handle multiple tasks and to rapidly respond to model or packaging revisions and product changes as requested from Product Planning, Engineering and Industrial Design staff
Assist the Chief Designer in administrative activities and planning of projects and programs
Documentation and recommendation of best practices and procedures of the design process. Implement continuous improvement
Up to 5% travel can be expected
Required Qualifications
Bachelor degree in Industrial Design or Transportation Design required.
8 + years of professional Vehicle Design Studio Experience with proven Interior Design examples.
Experience using Vizcom AI, Alias, Rhino CAD and Photoshop or equivalent software are required.
Design Portfolio required.
Preferred Qualifications
Exceptionally creative, highly motivated and team oriented.
Demonstrate ability to handle multiple assignments.
Leadership skills, mentoring ability, with strong emotional intelligence.
Foster a creative and innovative culture internally and externally.
Use of VR/XR is preferred.
Skilled use in Blender, VRED, and Gravity Sketch and other 2D/3D visualization tools is highly preferred.
Skilled in UX, UI and CMF
Familiarity with Parametric modeling tools, Grasshopper.
