THE POSITION
Are you interested in using your medical coding expertise to support a major statewide health program? The Medical Records Examiner position with the Department of Human Services offers a meaningful way to support the Medicaid Program. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position focuses on reviewing and evaluating medical procedure coding and related information used in the Medical Assistance Program. The role requires careful analysis, clear communication, and sound judgment when working with coding updates, claims data, and program guidelines. As a Medical Records Examiner, you will perform the following duties:
Coding Review: Evaluate procedure codes and related documentation to support fee schedule decisions
Information Analysis: Assess claims, encounters, and submissions from providers and agencies to form professional judgments
Team Coordination: Participate in project teams and workgroups and assist in guiding review processes
Technical Guidance: Provide consultative support to staff and stakeholders on coding, policy, and system procedures
Process Evaluation: Examine current procedures and contribute recommendations for improvements
Stakeholder Communication: Collaborate with policy staff in the development of code set updates, related communications, and provider bulletins

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
Work hours are 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time up to 3 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
Three years of professional experience in the field of medical assistance, health care services, or human services;or
An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirements:
You must possess active authorization to practice as a Registered Nurse in Pennsylvania.
If you possess an active temporary practice permit, you must obtain licensure as a Registered Nurse within the one (1) year period defined by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.
