Job Description
We are seeking a Senior Industrial Automation Execution Engineer to join our Autonomous
Manufacturing & Deployment (AMD) organization to support the planning, development,
and deployment of automation solutions that improve material flow, labor efficiency,
safety, and operational performance within manufacturing environments.
This role will work closely with operations, engineering, materials, logistics, and
automation teams to evaluate current processes, identify improvement opportunities,
develop automation concepts, and support successful implementation through launch
and stabilization. The ideal candidate combines strong analytical and problem-solving
capabilities with practical experience supporting manufacturing operations and
automation initiatives.
This position is weighted toward front-end analysis, material flow optimization, and
solution development while maintaining involvement throughout implementation and
execution.
Material Flow Analysis & Solution Development
Evaluate current-state manufacturing and material flow processes to identify
automation and operational improvement opportunities.
Conduct labor, productivity, and process analyses to quantify inefficiencies,
support business cases, and prioritize automation investments.
Analyze material flow, inventory replenishment methods, delivery frequencies,
space utilization, and line-side delivery strategies.
Develop future-state process concepts that improve safety, ergonomics, quality,
productivity, and operational efficiency.
Create automation concepts utilizing technologies such as autonomous mobile
robots (AMRs), automated guided vehicles (AGVs), automated fork trucks (AFTs),
automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRS), automated kitting, sequencing
systems, and related solutions.
Support the development of project justifications, feasibility assessments, cost
benefit analyses, and implementation strategies.
Collaborate with plant teams and stakeholders to align automation opportunities
with business objectives and operational needs.
Planning & Engineering
Support facility, process, and material flow planning activities associated with
manufacturing automation projects.
Develop and review layouts, route concepts, operational requirements, and
material delivery strategies.
Participate in simulation, modeling, and analysis activities used to evaluate
automation solutions and operational performance.
Determine operational requirements including throughput targets, staffing impacts,
fleet sizing, route capacities, and system utilization.
Partner with internal engineering teams and suppliers to develop practical, scalable
solutions.
Deployment & Launch Support
Support implementation, commissioning, startup, and stabilization activities for
automation systems and material handling technologies.
Collaborate with deployment engineers, controls engineers, suppliers, and plant
personnel during project execution.
Assist with troubleshooting material flow, process integration, and system
performance issues during launch activities.
Validate operational performance and identify opportunities to improve system
effectiveness following deployment.
Support achievement of project timing, safety, quality, and operational objectives.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work closely with operations, maintenance, engineering, materials, logistics, supply
chain, safety, IT, and external suppliers.
Facilitate discussions and workshops to align stakeholders on future-state
processes and automation strategies.
Communicate project progress, recommendations, risks, and improvement
opportunities to project teams and leadership.
Support supplier evaluations, solution reviews, and implementation activities.
Documentation & Continuous Improvement
Develop and maintain project documentation, process documentation,
implementation plans, training materials, and operational work instructions as
required.
Capture lessons learned and support continuous improvement of automation
standards, methodologies, and deployment processes.
Share best practices and support knowledge transfer across project teams.
Skills & Experience
The ideal candidate will bring experience in several of the following areas:
Industrial engineering, manufacturing engineering, automation engineering,
material flow engineering, logistics engineering, or related technical disciplines.
Labor analysis, productivity improvement, staffing optimization, work
measurement, or operational planning activities.
Material flow analysis, inventory management, logistics optimization, line-side
delivery strategies, replenishment systems, or PFEP methodologies.
Development of future-state manufacturing processes, automation concepts, and
operational improvement initiatives.
Manufacturing automation technologies such as AMRs, AGVs, AFTs, ASRS, cobots,
automated kitting systems, sequencing operations, or similar material handling
solutions.
Automation deployment, commissioning, startup, stabilization, or continuous
improvement activities within manufacturing environments.
Layout development, facility planning, simulation tools, digital modeling, or process
optimization.
