Job Title: Field Technician Job Description
The Field Technician performs on-site testing and inspection of soils, foundations, concrete, reinforcement, and asphalt across the Baltimore/Washington area. This role focuses on ensuring materials and construction practices meet required standards by conducting field tests, collecting samples, and documenting results with accuracy and attention to detail.
Responsibilities
Perform soils compaction testing and foundation inspections at various construction sites in the Baltimore/Washington area.
Conduct concrete testing, including sampling, strength tests, and verification of reinforcement placement and inspection.
Carry out asphalt testing and sampling to evaluate material quality and compliance with project specifications.
Use nuclear gauge equipment to measure soil density and moisture content in the field.
Perform sand cone tests and other soil testing methods, including soil classification and documentation of findings.
Collect, label, and preserve soil, concrete, and asphalt samples in accordance with established procedures.
Accurately record test results, observations, and site conditions, and report findings in a clear and timely manner.
Travel daily to multiple job sites using reliable transportation to access and navigate work locations.
Follow applicable testing standards, safety protocols, and quality control procedures during all field activities.
Communicate effectively with site personnel and project teams regarding test schedules, access needs, and results.
Essential Skills
Hands-on experience with soils compaction testing and foundation inspection in the field.
Practical experience performing concrete testing and reinforcement inspection.
Experience conducting asphalt testing and handling asphalt samples.
Proficiency in soil testing methods, including use of nuclear gauge, sand cone testing, and soil classification.
Ability to perform accurate soil, concrete, and asphalt sampling and maintain clear records.
Reliable transportation, preferably a light truck, suitable for accessing various work sites in the Baltimore/Washington area.
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow standardized testing procedures and safety guidelines.
Capability to work independently at multiple field locations and manage daily schedules effectively.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
WACEL certification or experience working under WACEL standards.
ACI certification or experience performing concrete tests in accordance with ACI standards.
MARTCP certification or familiarity with MARTCP procedures is a plus.
Comfort working outdoors in varying weather conditions and on active construction sites.
Effective communication skills for interacting with site personnel and documenting test results.
Organizational skills for managing samples, paperwork, and multiple site visits.

Work Environment

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $47840.00 - $58240.00/yr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
