Job Description
Under general supervision, the Success Coach provides holistic, student-centered advising and academic support to pre-health care students while supporting core Academic Support Center (ASC) operations at the Red Wing campus. The role delivers individualized advising, coaching, and retention-focused case management to promote academic progression and timely completion, using data-informed practices and advising technologies to guide course planning and address barriers to success. In addition, the position administers daily testing operations, including accommodated and standardized exams, by coordinating scheduling, proctoring, technology, and communications to ensure secure, compliant, and accessible testing services. The role also supports ASC front desk operations and collaborates across departments to deliver integrated student services, assist during peak periods, contribute to campus engagement, and maintain consistent communication and documentation aligned with institutional policies and practices.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND RESULTS
Deliver holistic, student-centered advising, coaching, and advocacy to support persistence, academic progression, and timely credential completion to primarily pre-health care students.
Meet with students individually or in groups regularly to monitor academic progress and facilitate students' development of educational goals, academic success strategies, and course planning through appreciative advising.
Guide intentional course planning and academic progression using deep knowledge of curriculum, developmental pathways, and financial implications.
Lead retention-focused case management through early alert systems (e.g., Starfish), documenting interventions and implementing academic success plans.
Document outreach, interventions, and resolutions for assigned students and communicate outcomes to others as directed by Southeast policy, procedure, and practices.
Proactively identify academic and non-academic barriers, develop individualized solutions, and connect students to culturally responsive college and community resources.
Coach students in college readiness and success behaviors including goal setting, self-management, effective engagement, and resource utilization.
Utilize Minnesota State and Southeast advising technologies (Workday Student, DARS/Degree Audit, eServices) to ensure accurate, data-informed advising and FERPA compliance.
Partner with faculty and staff to interpret academic expectations, coordinate outreach, and align targeted support for at-risk students.
Administer daily Academic Support Center testing operations at the Red Wing campus, including scheduling, proctoring, accommodations, technology, and communications to ensure secure and compliant testing.
Implement accommodated testing for the Red Wing campus, including scheduling (RegisterBlast), exam preparation, room setup, and proctoring, ensuring a confidential and compliant testing experience.
Coordinate daily ASC testing operations, including space logistics, computer configuration, accommodated testing arrangements, scheduling, and auto-scoring processes.
Proctor Accuplacer, TEAS, and other in-person exams in accordance with established procedures and standards.
Manage accommodated testing submissions and routine testing communications with students, faculty, and Academic Support leadership.
Monitor testing environments and technology; partner with IT to resolve issues and maintain testing readiness.
Provide post-exam communication and follow-up with faculty as needed.
Maintain ongoing communication with Academic Success Coordinators and the Director of Academic Support and Advising to ensure consistent implementation of accommodations.
Support daily ASC front desk operations and cross-department collaboration by managing student services, communications, events, and general center activities to ensure consistent and effective support.
Support daily Red Wing ASC front desk operations, including visitor check-in, equipment checkout, tutoring referrals, and general center activities.
Collaborate with Student Services, Academic Support, Registrar, Financial Aid, faculty, and other departments to support coordinated student services.
Communicate routine follow-up information to faculty who initiate academic concerns, ensuring appropriate information flow and documentation.
Provide front-line support during peak service periods including registration, orientation, and Commencement.
Represent the College at campus events and community engagements.
Engage in ongoing professional development and committee service related to student success and academic support best practices.
Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Salary Range:
$54,539-$79,156
Minimum Qualifications
One year of experience performing advising or academic support to students OR three years of experience in work related to the duties outlined herein. A Bachelor's degree may substitute for one year of experience; an Associate's degree may substitute for six months of experience.
Ability to work effectively with students from diverse and traditionally underserved backgrounds with varied needs.
Public speaking sufficient to present information clearly and actionable to large groups.
Effective written communication skills.
Human relations/customer service sufficient to actively listen to and understand students' needs and provide accurate information and appropriate alternatives, meet quality of service needs, and evaluate student satisfaction.
Computer software applications and systems sufficient to manage and query data and create business correspondence, reports and training presentations.
Demonstrated ability to maintain high levels of accuracy and attention to detail when managing student records, scheduling, and documentation processes.
Proven ability to prioritize, organize, and manage multiple concurrent responsibilities in a fast-paced, student-facing environment
Ability to track, document, and follow up on multiple student cases or tasks simultaneously, ensuring timely completion and clear communication.
Ability to work with minimal supervision while maintaining consistent output and organization.
Preferred Qualification
Bachelor's Degree plus two or more years of relevant work experience or Master's Degree in related field.
Two or more years of experience working in Higher Education.
Knowledge of college policies and procedures, programs and curriculum, services, and resources for admissions, financial aid, records and registration and student life to assist applicants and students in making sound educational and career decisions.
Experience working with student record systems, project management and specialty software such as DARS, ImageNow, Starfish, Teams, etc.
Advising, Admissions or Registration experience within a Minnesota State agency.
Multilingual or experience working with underserved populations.
Experience following established procedures, compliance standards (e.g., FERPA), or testing protocols with consistency and precision.
Work Shift -
Monday-Friday (7:30am-4pm or 8:00am-4:30pm)
