Adjunct Faculty Position in Quality Assurance
Medical Laboratory Sciences Program

The Department of Health Sciences-Medical Laboratory Sciences in the School of Health Professions invites applications for the position of Part-Time Adjunct Faculty to assist with the teaching of the Quality Assurance courses in the Medical Laboratory Sciences (MLS) program. This position will begin in August 2026 and will be responsible for teaching courses (lecture) in the Fall 2026 semester.
Primary Responsibilities include:
Collaborate with departmental leadership to design and develop course content for Quality Assurance and Quality Assessment in the Clinical Laboratory course taught to Bachelors and Master's students for the Medical Laboratory Sciences Program.
Create and deliver classroom and online instructional materials, including lectures, study resources, assignments, case studies, and assessments related to quality management systems, quality assurance, quality control, quality assessment, regulatory compliance, and continuous quality improvement.
Develop core curriculum outlines and coordinate with the Program Director to define key instructional components.
Contribute to the development of comprehensive examination materials and other assessment tools that evaluate student competency in laboratory quality systems, quality assurance, quality assessment, quality control, method validation, proficiency testing, and regulatory compliance.
Establish course and program learning objectives that align with the mission and educational goals of the Medical Laboratory Sciences Program, the School of Health Professions, and UT Health San Antonio.
Deliver high-quality instruction in Quality Assurance and Quality Assessment through an in-person, hybrid, or online format, provide timely and constructive feedback on student performance, and foster meaningful student engagement through discussions, case-based learning, quality improvement activities, and application of quality management principles to clinical laboratory practice.
Qualified candidates must have:
· Certification as an MLS: Medical Laboratory Scientist (ASCP);
· A minimum of a Master's degree in an MLS-appropriate discipline; and
· At least five years of professional experience in Medical Lab Sciences.
Faculty may also engage in collaborative scholarly activities. In addition, the successful candidate will participate in community, professional, and university service activities, as appropriate. This is a part-time (12 month) adjunct position and reports to the Chair of the Health Sciences Department.
The Department of Health Sciences is one of seven departments in the School of Health Professions. In addition to the School of Health Professions, the UT Health San Antonio also has a Medical School, Dental School, Nursing School, School of Public Health, and a Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. Benefits Overview
UT Health San Antonio offers an excellent benefits package for its employees. Employees who work at least 20 hours a week, with an appointment of at least 4.5 months, are eligible for benefits.
Medical - UT SELECT Medical insurance is offered free for fulltime employees and administered by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas. TRS is a defined benefit retirement plan which UT Health matches employee contributions. ORP is for eligible faculty staff employees. Voluntary retirement programs are also available to invest before- or after-tax dollars with the choice of five quality retirement plan providers.
Time Off- A generous leave program offers multiple paid leave options:
Front-loaded Paid Time Off: 128 to 208 hours (16 to 26 days) of Paid Time Off based on years of service, given at the start of each fiscal year. PTO may be prorated in year one based on date of hire.
Extended Illness Bank: 8 hours (1 day) accrued per month which can be used for illness or injury after one day of Paid Time Off is taken.
Paid Family Leave: Up to 240 hours (6 weeks) to care for a spouse, child, or parent after 6 months of consecutive employment.
Holidays: 12 set paid holidays each fiscal year.
