Adjunct Faculty Position Department of Health Sciences UT Health San Antonio
The Department of Health Sciences in the School of Health Professions invites applications for the position of Part-Time Adjunct Faculty to assist with the teaching of the Advanced Research Concepts class in the Medical Laboratory Sciences (MLS) program and the Microbiology Laboratory in the Bachelor of Science in Medical Sciences (BSMS) Program. This position will begin in August 2026 and will be responsible for teaching courses in the Fall 2026 semester.
Primary responsibilities include:
· Collaborate with departmental leadership to design and develop course content for the Advanced Research Concepts course taught to Master's students in the MLS Program and the Microbiology Laboratory taught to Bachelor students in the BSMS program.
· Create and deliver classroom and online instructional materials, including lectures, study resources, assignments, case studies, and assessments related to research concepts, research design, scientific methodology, literature review, data collection and analysis, interpretation of research findings, research ethics, and evidence-based practice.
· Develop core curriculum outlines and coordinate with the Program Director to define key instructional components.
· Establish course and program learning objectives that align with the mission and educational goals of the Medical Laboratory Sciences Program, the School of Health Professions, and UT Health San Antonio.
· Contribute to the development of comprehensive examination materials and other assessment tools that evaluate student competency in research concepts.
· Prepare and deliver microbiology laboratory instruction, including hands-on exercises in aseptic technique, microscopy, microbial culture and identification, staining techniques, and other fundamental microbiological laboratory methods.
· Deliver high-quality instruction, provide timely and constructive feedback on student performance, and foster meaningful student engagement through discussions.
Qualified candidates must have:
Certification as an MLS: Medical Laboratory Scientist (ASCP);
· A minimum of a Master's degree in an MLS-appropriate discipline; and
At least five years of professional experience in Medical Lab Sciences
Faculty may also engage in collaborative scholarly activities. In addition, the successful candidate will participate in community, professional, and university service activities, as appropriate. This is a part-time (12 month) adjunct position and reports to the Chair of the Health Sciences Department.
The Department of Health Sciences is one of seven departments in the School of Health Professions. In addition to the School of Health Professions, the UT Health San Antonio also has a Medical School, Dental School, Nursing School, School of Public Health, and a Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. Benefits Overview
UT Health San Antonio offers an excellent benefits package for its employees. Employees who work at least 20 hours a week, with an appointment of at least 4.5 months, are eligible for benefits.
Medical - UT SELECT Medical insurance is offered free for fulltime employees and administered by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas. Retirement - Employees are eligible for either the Teacher Retirement System (TRS) or the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP). TRS is a defined benefit retirement plan which UT Health matches employee contributions. ORP is for eligible faculty staff employees. Voluntary retirement programs are also available to invest before- or after-tax dollars with the choice of five quality retirement plan providers.
Time Off- A generous leave program offers multiple paid leave options:
Front-loaded Paid Time Off: 128 to 208 hours (16 to 26 days) of Paid Time Off based on years of service, given at the start of each fiscal year. PTO may be prorated in year one based on date of hire.
Extended Illness Bank: 8 hours (1 day) accrued per month which can be used for illness or injury after one day of Paid Time Off is taken.
Paid Family Leave: Up to 240 hours (6 weeks) to care for a spouse, child, or parent after 6 months of consecutive employment.
Holidays: 12 set paid holidays each fiscal year.
Discounts - Employees enjoy a range of discounts on services, tickets, and gym membership.
