T he overall function of this position is to inspect and oversee subordinate inspectors on construction projects in all phases of the construction project.The incumbent must be self-motivated and be able to perform duties many times without supervision or with minimal supervision and be able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. The incumbent will participate in DOTD structured training programs as appropriate and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks.

Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a high school diploma or GED plus four years of experience in construction inspection or experience in the maintenance of public streets, roads, bridges, highways, or associated structures; OR
Six months of experience in sub-professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance plus four years of experience in construction inspection or experience in the maintenance of public streets, roads, bridges, highways, or associated structures; OR
Twenty-four semester hours in one of the following specialized fields: architecture, cartography, construction management, construction technology, drafting, engineering, engineering graphics, engineering technology, industrial technology, landscape architecture, math, or physics; OR
A bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology, construction management, or construction technology; OR
Possession of an engineer intern certificate.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
Serves as a primary lead worker in a DOTD Project Engineer's Office and is responsible for contract administration on various roadways, bridges, or other public works projects.
Position is responsible for quality assurance inspections of contractors' work to ensure conformance with contract documents, plans and specifications by providing functional supervision of a team of subordinate engineering technicians and inspectors.
Position generally serves as DOTD's principal representative on construction projects and has frequent contact with contractor personnel, other DOTD or FHWA employees, and the public. Incumbent is required to exercise independent judgment based on a broad knowledge of Department construction specifications, policies, and standards and his or her own expertise in common construction practices.
This position serves as lead worker and functional supervisor for daily project operations.
