Summary The primary purpose of this position is to act as the Supervisory Medical Administration Specialist to the Deputy Chief, Business Office within the Performance Management & Data Section at the Tennessee Valley Healthcare System (TVHS) Responsibilities Supervisory Medical Administration Specialist for the BO, reporting directly to the Chief of the BO. This position is primarily responsible for the implementation of streamlined processes & procedures that will systematically improve processes both within the Business Office and associated processes throughout the VAMC, including Community Clinics. The major duties of this position include but are not limited to: Track and report performance improvement and data management related activities affecting the operational efficiency and effectiveness of program Develop procedures for establishing, operating, and assessing the effectiveness of patient administration and processing data quality systems Review the work of staff members at various stages of completion to assure compliance Investigates and analyzes adverse VHA patient administration and processing data quality trends or conditions and initiates corrective action Consults with staff and managers to identify opportunities for related data quality improvement Assesses the productivity, effectiveness, and efficiency of administrative support and staff activities Identifies and corrects problems as they pertain to capturing accurate workload information Develop ways to obtain or develop data tools to evaluate the operations which requires development of policies and guidelines Work Schedule: 7:30am-4:00pm, Monday-Friday Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Qualifications To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 08/27/2026. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-12 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-11. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. Ability to identify and correct problems as they pertain to capturing accurate workload information. Strong knowledge in Decentralized Hospital Computer Program Systems (VISTA) and Business Office Software programs and reports and functional ability in the use of Microsoft Access, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Knowledge and skill in applying analytical and evaluative methods and techniques to issues or studies concerning the efficiency and effectiveness of VHA patient administration and processing operations. Knowledge of pertinent laws, regulations, polices, and precedents that affect the use of program and related support resources in VHA patient administration and processing activities. Skilled in the ability to communicate orally and in writing with strong presentation skills.
