The Bilingual Medical Assistant supports healthcare providers by performing a blend of clinical, administrative, and clerical duties to ensure patients receive an excellent standard of care. This role plays a key part in helping patients feel comfortable in the clinic, clearly explaining provider instructions, and maintaining accurate and organized medical records while working closely with the care team.
Responsibilities
Escort patients to exam rooms, ensure they are comfortably settled, and notify the provider when the patient is ready to be seen.
Participate in the morning huddle to review the schedule and confirm that all laboratory and diagnostic test results are available in the chart prior to patient appointments.
Maintain exam rooms in a clean, orderly, and fully stocked condition, restocking medical, lab, and office supplies as needed.
Conduct the initial patient intake by confirming the reason for visit and symptoms, and accurately obtaining and recording vital signs including weight, height, blood pressure, and temperature.
Verify and update all current medications, medical allergies, and contact information in the patient's record.
Prepare patients for examinations and procedures, ensuring they understand what to expect and feel at ease.
Collect and prepare laboratory specimens according to established protocols to support accurate diagnostic testing.
Instruct patients on medication usage, special diets, and other provider-directed care plans in both English and Spanish as needed.
Transmit prescription refill requests and other provider orders as directed, ensuring accuracy and timely follow-up.
Order and track medical, laboratory, and office supplies to support smooth clinic operations.
Follow up on diagnostic tests, medication orders, blood work, and other clinical results, and ensure appropriate documentation and communication to patients and providers.
Use computer applications and electronic medical record (EMR) systems to enter, update, and retrieve patient information and documentation.
Perform data entry tasks with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail for reporting and administrative purposes.
Provide courteous and professional customer service to patients in person and over the phone, including assisting with questions and scheduling needs.
Utilize medical terminology appropriately in documentation and communication with providers and staff.
Support phlebotomy and other clinical tasks within scope and training, as applicable.
Assist in performing EKGs, giving injections, and administering nebulizer treatments when trained and directed by the provider.
Assist patients via phone, including relaying provider instructions, clarifying care plans, and documenting interactions in the EMR.
Additional Skills
High school diploma or equivalent.
Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish, with the ability to communicate clearly with patients and providers in both languages.
Medical Assistant certification, registration, or completion of a Medical Assistant diploma program preferred.
Approximately 2 years of experience as a Medical Assistant; candidates with less experience may be considered if they demonstrate a strong work ethic.
Experience with Athena EMR strongly preferred; training is available for candidates new to this system.
CPR certification or willingness to obtain CPR certification.
Ability to use computer applications and electronic medical record systems for data entry, documentation, and patient record management.
Strong customer service skills and a professional, patient-centered approach.
Solid understanding of medical terminology and basic clinical procedures.
Ability to accurately obtain and record vital signs and patient information.
Organizational skills to manage multiple tasks in a high-volume clinical environment.
Clear verbal and written communication skills in both English and Spanish.
Work Environment
This role is 100% onsite in a primary care clinic located in North Miami. The Bilingual Medical Assistant works as part of a collaborative team and partners closely in a 1:1 relationship with a physician or other healthcare provider. The clinic is high volume, with each provider typically seeing 12-16 patients per day, creating a fast-paced environment that requires strong organizational and multitasking skills. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with a one-hour lunch break.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Miramar, FL.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $20.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
