The Massachusetts Veterans Homes are independent state agencies that organizationally report to the Secretary of the Executive Office of Veterans Services (EOVS). The Veterans Homes are owned and operated by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and address the needs of a wide variety of veterans, including long term care and domiciliary services meeting the veteran residents' care and psychosocial needs. The care and services provided by the Veterans' Homes are supported by a staff of approximately 450, representing physicians, advanced practice clinicians, nurses, aides, social workers, recreation therapist, physical and occupational therapy, speech language pathology, educators, building trades, dietary, housekeeping, managers, support staff, consultants and contractors. The Massachusetts Veterans Home (MVH) at Chelsea is currently seeking a Environmental Service Specialist II to join our team! The MVH at Chelsea is a long-term care and independent living domiciliary facility. The Environmental Service Specialist II is a supervisory role responsible for maintaining our buildings in a clean and orderly condition, maintaining the appearance and cleanliness of floors, washing interior surfaces of buildings, and maintaining the grounds around the buildings. We are seeking candidates able to work effectively on a team, through attention to detail and leading by example. The Environmental Service Specialist II must be committed to providing excellent customer service in a professional manner, ensuring the highest standards in cleanliness and safety for our veteran residents. Duties include: 1. Provide on-the-job training and orientation to employees. 2. Inspect assigned areas for cleanliness, adherence to safety standards and the need for maintenance and repair. 3. Maintain records and/or logs on assigned unit activities. 4. Keep buildings in clean and orderly condition by performing a combination of activities including cleaning assigned areas and making minor repairs to buildings using hand tools and equipment 5. Maintains the cleanliness and appearance of floors by sweeping and moping and by utilizing building custodial equipment such as polishers, buffers, vacuum cleaners, and carpet shampooers. 6. Washes interior surfaces of buildings such as walls, ceilings, windows, furniture, shower chairs, fans, shower trolleys, walkers, beds, bedside tables, over bed tables, mechanical wheelchairs, vents etc. using appropriate supplies and equipment. 7. Respond to emergencies such as spills or floods and assist in clean-up. 8. Empties waste and recycling receptacles and transports contents to appropriate areas. 9. Cleans toilets, lavatories, utility rooms, laundry rooms, patient rooms dining rooms elevators, offices etc. using appropriate supplies and equipment. 10. Transport soiled linen to holding area. 11. Transport clean and dirty laundry to appropriate areas. 12. Re-move and re-hang window draperies and bedside curtains. 13. Attending departmental training, annual orientation, safety training etc. as required. 14. Snow removal. May be assigned the following additional duties based on assignment: - Operate elevators to pick up and deliver clothing, laundry, equipment etc. - Maintain grounds around buildings by cutting grass, raking leaves, weeding, and thinning flower beds or gardens etc. - Perform outside duties such as washing windows, sweeping walks, shoveling snow and ice from walks/stairs/ramps and fire escapes, and picking up trash. - Perform related duties such as loading or unloading equipment and supplies from vehicles, moving furniture, setting up furniture and assembling furniture such as beds, desks, cabinets, etc. Working conditions: - Required to walk and stand for prolonged periods of time, lift and carry heavy objects, work outdoors or indoors in all @types of weather. Required to work under conditions of hazard such as slippery or wet floors. May be required to work varied shifts, weekends, holidays, or nights. Minimum Entrance Requirements: Applicants must have at least 6 months of full-time or equivalent part-time experience in work involving custodial maintenance and/or housekeeping or building maintenance.
