The Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs is looking for a part-time Primary Care Physician / Medical Specialist 3 to provide primary physician medical care to Veterans residing at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Silver Bay. The incumbent is expected to report to the Minnesota Veterans Home in Silver Bay to provide care.
The Minnesota Veterans Home-Silver Bay provides long-term Skilled-Nursing Care for 50 veterans in a home-like environment along the North Shore of Lake Superior. Physicians perform CMS regulatory visits, new admission physical examinations and sub-acute clinical assessments averaging 4 resident visits a week. Physicians work in conjunction with a facility Nurse Practitioner staffed on site. Clinical care specialties available at the MVH-Silver Bay include Behavioral Therapist, Social Workers and Certified Nurse specialists.
This position is designated as intermittent and the incumbent will work 8 hours every two weeks. Working hours are flexible and work obligations can be completed by working a half-day weekly, a full day every other week, working after hours/weekends or a combination of the above. There are NO after-hour call responsibilities or clinical responsibilities when off site. After-hours/weekend on-call responsibilities are provided by a rotation of Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs staff physicians and nurse practitioners well-versed in Skilled-Nursing Level of Care.
This is a salaried position and is NOT tied to revenue billing or productivity requirements.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Provide primary care medical services to MVH residents following all state and federal regulatory requirements.
Provide medical services through Minnesota Veterans Homes Medical Clinic Group Practice to ensure that medical coverage for the MVH is complete and timely following the CMS, State of Minnesota, and Veterans Affairs regulations for nursing home care.
Provide clinical consultation for physician services regulatory requirements and best practice in collaboration with MVH leadership and clinical teams as the Medical Director.
Collaborate with the Healthcare Division senior leadership team regarding clinical initiatives that would support and benefit all Minnesota Veterans Homes.
Travel between state nursing homes as needed, in case of extreme clinical needs.

Minimum Qualifications
Board certification or eligibility by the American Board of Family Practice or Internal Medicine.
An active, unrestricted Minnesota licensure as a Medical Doctor.
The ability to be credentialed at the Federal Veterans Administration at time of hire or within probationary period.
An active up to date Basic Life Support (BLS) provider qualification.
Preferred Qualifications
One year of geriatric care experience.
