Job Title: Industrial Painter
Job Description
This role involves setting up, operating, and maintaining industrial paint systems to wash, paint, and varnish boat trailers with a high level of precision. You will prepare surfaces, mix and apply coatings, and ensure that all finished products meet or exceed quality standards while following established procedures and safety guidelines.
Responsibilities
Set up, operate, and tend paint systems to wash, paint, or apply varnish to boat trailers and related components.
Paint parts and product surfaces using spray guns and other paint tools according to specifications and quality standards.
Regulate conveyor speeds, machine temperature, air pressure, air circulation, and the flow or spray of paints to achieve consistent coating results.
Prepare surfaces for painting by sanding and filling small dents or scratches with body fillers, and applying caulk to seal seams and create smooth surfaces.
Spray prepared surfaces with specified amounts of primers and finish coatings, ensuring proper coverage and finish quality.
Mix paints to match color specifications or original colors, including stirring or thinning paints using mixing equipment.
Weigh or measure chemicals, coatings, or paints before adding them to machines to maintain accurate formulations.
Determine paint flow, viscosity, and coating quality through visual inspections and by using tools such as viscometers.
Monitor equipment gauges and overall equipment performance to ensure accurate and reliable operation during painting processes.
Adjust controls on infrared ovens, heat lamps, portable ventilators, or exhaust units to accelerate drying between coats while maintaining coating integrity.
Disassemble, clean, and reassemble painting equipment using solvents, wire brushes, and cloths to maintain cleanliness and functionality.
Handle and dispose of hazardous waste in accordance with company policies and applicable procedures.
Monitor painting operations to identify flaws such as runs, dry shot, or other defects, and take corrective actions to address root causes.
Participate in departmental and individual 5S tasks, including organization, cleanliness, and continuous improvement activities as assigned by leadership.
Follow all applicable rules, regulations, and company policies while performing daily tasks and maintaining a safe work area.
Perform additional duties and cross-training activities as assigned to support production needs and team flexibility.
Essential Skills
Industrial painting experience using spray guns and related paint tools in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
Proficiency in paint preparation, including sanding, surface preparation, and paint prep for metal or similar substrates.
Experience operating in a paint booth environment, including setup, operation, and basic troubleshooting.
Ability to regulate conveyor speeds, temperatures, air pressure, and paint flow to maintain consistent coating quality.
Skill in mixing paints to match specified or original colors, including measuring, stirring, and thinning using mixing equipment.
Capability to use measurement tools such as viscometers to assess paint flow, viscosity, and coating quality.
Experience with industrial painting processes such as spray painting, HVLP spraying, and finishing operations.
Ability to monitor gauges and equipment performance and make necessary adjustments during production.
Competence in cleaning, disassembling, and reassembling painting equipment using appropriate solvents and tools.
Comfort with manual labor, including lifting, bending, and working in a production environment for extended periods.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience in industrial painting for trailers, marine products, or similar metal structures.
Experience with sandblasting or blasting operations to prepare surfaces prior to painting.
Knowledge of powder coating processes, including powder coat application and finishing.
Auto body or body shop experience, including filling, sanding, and refinishing surfaces.
Familiarity with marine-related painting or finishing work.
Experience using HVLP spray equipment and various @types of paint guns and sprayers.
Comfort working with chemicals, coatings, and hazardous materials in accordance with safety procedures.
Willingness to participate in cross-training and support multiple tasks within the department.
Commitment to 5S and continuous improvement practices in a manufacturing environment.

Work Environment
This position is based in a manufacturing environment focused on building and finishing boat trailers. You will work around paint booths, spray equipment, mixing stations, and material handling systems, including conveyors, infrared ovens, heat lamps, portable ventilators, and exhaust units. The role involves handling paints, coatings, chemicals, and solvents, with a strong emphasis on safe handling and proper hazardous waste disposal. Work is performed on A and B shifts with flexible schedules, and the job requires regular manual labor, including standing for long periods, bending, lifting, and working in and around industrial equipment. Appropriate work attire and use of personal protective equipment are expected to maintain safety and cleanliness in the facility.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.46 - $20.21/hr.
