Description

We are looking for an Accounting Clerk to support daily accounting operations for a long-term contract assignment in Indianapolis, Indiana. This position focuses on maintaining smooth accounts payable and accounts receivable activity by handling high-volume transactions, assisting with billing and cash posting, and keeping records accurate and organized. The role partners closely with senior accounting team members to help sustain business continuity, resolve routine issues, and ensure timely financial processing across core agency functions. This Accounting Clerk role is being offered in an in-office setting.

Responsibilities:

Handle day-to-day payable and receivable transactions by following established accounting procedures and required turnaround times.

Review incoming invoices for completeness, assign appropriate coding, and route documents through the proper approvals before payment processing.

Assist with billing activities, including preparing invoices and distributing.

Record received funds, apply payments to the correct customer accounts.

Investigate payment variances such as unapplied cash, short payments, overpayments, returned items, and posting errors.

Contribute to collections and statement review efforts by generating aging information, following up on standard items, and coordinating details with internal service teams.

Requirements

Experience working with both accounts payable and accounts receivable processes in a transactional accounting environment.

Ability to process invoices accurately, enter financial data efficiently, and maintain consistent attention to detail.

Working knowledge of account reconciliation, payment application, and general discrepancy research.

Familiarity with collections support, aging review, and resolution of billing or payment exceptions.

Proficiency using general business and accounting systems.

Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet recurring deadlines.

Clear communication skills and the judgment to escalate unusual or unresolved issues appropriately.
