The Executive Office of Health and Human Services (EOHHS) is seeking a detail-oriented and intellectually curious Paralegal to join the General Counsel's Office, supporting a dynamic legal unit that handles litigation, public records, internal investigations, and employment matters. The Paralegal will contribute to meaningful legal efforts across state and federal courts, as well as administrative forums such as the MassHealth Board of Hearings, the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination, and the Division of Administrative Law Appeals. In this role, you will engage in substantive legal work that spans research, drafting, discovery, and public records compliance, with a strong emphasis on applying the Massachusetts Public Records Law and related regulations. You will play an essential part in managing complex case materials, coordinating document collection and production, and ensuring accuracy and consistency across legal filings and internal systems. This is an excellent opportunity for a candidate who values precision, organization, and the opportunity to grow within a collaborative legal team that operates at a fast pace and with a strong sense of purpose. /Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):/ · Conduct comprehensive legal research to support litigation, public records, internal investigations, and employment matters. · Draft and prepare a variety of legal documents, including pleadings, motions, memoranda, affidavits, and public records response correspondence. · Manage and maintain case files, ensuring organization, accuracy, and timely updates of all legal materials. · Coordinate and facilitate discovery processes, including the preservation, collection, review, and production of documents. · Review, redact, and withhold records in compliance with applicable laws, including public records exemptions, attorney-client privilege, and work product protections. · Support responses to public records requests by gathering materials, analyzing legal considerations, and preparing compliant and timely responses. · Maintain and update tracking systems and databases to ensure accurate reporting and case status monitoring. · Index, organize, and update pleadings and discovery materials, including binders and electronic records. · Serve as a point of contact for inquiries from internal stakeholders, external partners, and members of the public, ensuring appropriate routing and follow-up. · Provide administrative support to the Office of the General Counsel, including processing correspondence and assisting with operational needs as assigned. /Required Qualifications/ · Experience managing the intake, triage, processing and timely response to complaints, motions, subpoenas and other compulsory process. · Demonstrated knowledge performing legal research. · Ability to draft legal documents and memoranda. · Experience effectively supporting document collection, review, and redaction of records in an eDiscovery platform, and the production of records. · Demonstrated expertise in meeting the requirements and deadlines under the federal and state rules of civil procedure and Public Records Law and Administrative Law. · Capacity to communicate and coordinate with staff procedures for responding to litigation and public records and organize all relevant materials. /Preferred Qualifications:/ · Prior experience supporting litigation, public records, employment law, or internal investigations in a legal or government setting. · Knowledge of the Massachusetts Public Records Law and related regulations, including experience handling public records requests. · Familiarity with discovery processes, including document preservation, collection, review, and production. · A high degree of accuracy and attention to detail. · Experience applying legal concepts such as attorney-client privilege, work product doctrine, and statutory exemptions to document review and redaction. · Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain detailed records, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. · Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with internal stakeholders, external partners, and members of the public. · High level of discretion, sound judgment, and commitment to confidentiality when handling sensitive and complex legal matters. · Proficient with Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, Outlook, Planner, PowerPoint, and Teams; experience working with legal case management or document management systems. /About the Executive Office of Health and Human Services (EOHHS):/ The Executive Office of Health and Human Services works with many of Massachusetts' most vulnerable residents.
