Summary This position is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), at the San Diego VA Medical Center (VAMC) in the Surgical Service Department. The primary purpose of the Clinical Administrative Specialist is to serve as an advisor to the Cardiothoracic and Neurosurgery Section Chiefs, working closely with other clinical and non-clinical services to ensure coordination in the delivery of medical services. Responsibilities Duties include but not limited to the following: Collaborate with the Cardiothoracic and Neurosurgery Section Chiefs Complete special projects Provide administrative support Advise service line leadership based on evaluation and analysis of resource, workload and productivity data Manage daily administrative operations Communicates with patients in person, in writing, and by telephone Oversees and manages the T&L units with the section Analyzes scheduling/overbooking trends, workload variations, labor mapping and potential problems and inconsistencies Develops procedures an systems for establishing, operating and assessing the effectiveness of administrative control systems and line or operating programs. Performs budgetary analysis and fund control point management Creates, updates and coordinates numerous Service Policies directly related to patient care based on national and local policies and procedures Resolves daily workplace issues and maintains efficient work flow Reviews and assists physicians with completion of patient requested disability forms Assists the Office of the Chief, Surgical Service with the credentialing and privileging of all surgical faculty Advise the Chiefs of important office matters arising during Chief absence Performs other related duties as assigned Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS 7 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS 6. For a GS 9 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS 7. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials.
