We have an exciting opportunity for a Software Systems Engineering Manager at our General Atomics Systems Integration (GA-SI) group in Kaysville, UT. This position is responsible for the planning, managing and technical performance of the Software Systems Engineering unit.
This position typically reports to a technical manager and is responsible for the planning, managing and technical performance of one or more software engineering projects/unit(s).
Accountable for all phases of assigned software engineering projects from inception through completion including collaborating with the technical staff in the planning, designing, development, and validation of the software solution.
Participates with technical staff, program managers and/or Division/Group executive management to develop and implement current, annual and long-term technical, schedule, quality, business and financial objectives for the unit(s).
Objectives are typically accomplished through subordinate software engineering managers and/or team leaders.
May be responsible for decisions that impact outcomes where erroneous decisions could cause serious schedule delays and expenditure of additional time, resources and funds.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for managing GA-SI Software Systems Engineering activities including the creation, development, and sustainment of software systems primarily for embedded controls and testing. This responsibility includes the oversight of software tools, the development and improvement of software processes, and all software documentation for internal use and program deliverables.
Responsible for those portions of Systems Engineering to support the development of Software architectures and requirements in conjunction with other engineering organizations.
Responsible for managing planning and managing technical performance of personnel resources to ensure quality, schedule, and financial objectives are met.
Manages all phases of assigned software projects from inception through completion.
Oversee the execution and establish the development and improvements of software and system processes in accordance with SAE ARP4754, RTCA DO-178, and related standards, as applicable, for commercial and military programs.
Ensures that software and system requirements are established, recorded, and managed for traceability and verification during the performance of software efforts.
Participates in and coordinates the establishment of software design concepts, criteria, and engineering efforts for product research, development, testing, and integration.
Ensures technical leadership and excellence is maintained by participating in the planning, attraction, selection, retention, and development of the required management, professional, and technical talent.
Leads progress review sessions to discuss cost, schedule, and technical performance.
Acts as primary contact for Software Systems Engineering activities.
Identifies technical issues and provides leadership in developing solutions such as re-allocation of resources or modifying contract specifications.
Oversees the interactions of Software Systems Engineering staff with customers, suppliers, and support organizations.
Interacts with internal and external representatives at various levels concerning resolution of technical and scheduling issues.
Participates with technical staff, program managers and/or Division/Group executive management to develop and implement current, annual and long-term technical, schedule, quality, business and financial objectives.
Manages the development of and ensure the security of the Division proprietary technology and maintains the strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
Participates in the preparation of proposals, business plans, proposal work statements and specifications, operating budgets and financial terms/conditions of contract(s).
Participates in the development of new business opportunities and expansion of existing business opportunities.
May also contribute to the development of annual and long-term objectives for the Engineering Services Division.
May be responsible for decisions that impact outcomes where erroneous decisions could cause serious schedule delays and expenditure of additional time, resources and funds.
Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of General Atomics. Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.

Job Qualifications:
Typically requires a Bachelors, Masters or PhD in engineering or a related technical field as well as eleven or more years of progressively complex software engineering experience. Equivalent experience may be substituted in lieu of education.
Must demonstrate a technical expertise in software development including applicable engineering principles, concepts, theory, and practices.
Project management and leadership skills that include organizing, planning, scheduling, and coordinating workloads to meet established deadlines or milestones.
The ability to resolve complex management and technical problems.
Experience with the development of software systems from inception to integration into the end product.
Experience with software certification and testing for aerospace applications.
Must have experience with aircraft braking systems and controls.
Experience with software tools for developing and managing requirements, code, and software verification testing.
Experience with Agile methods and planning for software development along with the associated tools, such as Atlassian Jira.
A working knowledge of SAE ARP4754, RTCA DO-178, and other FAA and Military standards and requirements.
Must possess the ability to resolve complex management and technical problems.
Strong communication, leadership, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required to enable an effective interface with other departments, all levels of management, professional and support staff, customers, potential customers, and government representatives.
Customer focused, must be able to work on a self-initiated basis and in a team environment, and able to work extended hours and travel as required.
Ability to obtain and maintain DoD Security Clearance in required.
