Description

We are looking for a detail-oriented Legal Assistant to support appeals and administrative legal operations for a government organization in Richmond, Virginia. This contract position plays an important role in keeping case activity organized, accurate, and compliant with established legal and regulatory standards. The successful candidate will help manage appeal files from initial intake through final processing while providing dependable administrative support to attorneys, examiners, and related stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

Review and refine decisions, orders, and related legal documents to improve accuracy, readability, consistency, and alignment with basic legal standards.

Verify essential case information such as party names, case captions, dates, and supporting documentation before materials are finalized.

Complete case processing activities within required timelines and ensure appeal matters move forward without unnecessary delay.

Record case outcomes with precision and prepare finalized orders, decisions, and supporting materials for distribution and mailing.

Examine appeal correspondence, earlier rulings, and case records to identify the correct statutory issues and applicable administrative code references.

Maintain organized case files by logging, filing, and tracking incoming and outgoing documents throughout the appeal lifecycle.

Coordinate the routing and assignment of appeal matters, assemble case materials, and support scheduling and communication related to hearings.

Assist with transcript preparation, circuit court appeal documentation, routine legal research requests, and quality control reviews as needed.

Perform high-volume transcription of administrative hearings with strong accuracy, speed, and close attention to detail.

Respond to routine inquiries, support records retention activities, and contribute to special projects and general administrative tasks for the appeals team.

Requirements - Prior experience in a legal assistant, paralegal, administrative legal support, or closely related role.

Working knowledge of legal documentation, case tracking, legal proceedings, and records management practices.

Strong proofreading and editing skills with the ability to identify grammar issues, inconsistencies, and missing case details.

Ability to manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment that involves high-volume, time-sensitive work.

Experience handling calendars, coordinating meetings, or supporting scheduling activities in a detail-focused office setting.

Solid written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to respond effectively to routine inquiries.

High level of accuracy in data entry, document preparation, and transcription work.

Familiarity with statutes, administrative code references, legal contracts, or appeals-related processes is preferred. TalentMatch®
