Elayn Hunt Correctional Center is seeking a detail-oriented and motivatedAccounting Specialist to join our business office. This role plays a key part in supporting the financial operations of the facility by ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in all accounting processes.
The ideal candidate is organized, dependable, and comfortable working in a fast-paced correctional environment. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to meaningful public-sector work while developing strong professional accounting skills.

Minimum Qualifications
One year of experience or training in accounting, auditing, bookkeeping, or financial operations or computations.
EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will substitute for one year of the required experience.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
Serves as the first level of review and approval of financial transactions relative to collections, refunds, funds disbursement, cost accounting, expenditure control, budgeting, grants management, program analysis, accounts payable, and accounts receivable to ensure accuracy and completeness of calculations, legitimacy of transactions, and proper authorization.
Responsible for posting and journalizing a variety of small accounts or one or more large accounts of limited complexity.
Confers with the general public, patients, vendors, and employees to obtain information and answer questions on a wide variety of matters.
Verifies calculations to balance receipts and to determine taxes, discounts, deductions, and additional charges.
Locates and corrects journalizing and posting errors.
Position-Specific Details:
Appointment Type: PROBATION, or PROMOTION OF A PERMANENT, CLASSIFIED LOUISIANA STATE EMPLOYEE
Current permanent status classified LA State employees may be required to accept a probational appointment if accepted.
An employee selected for a promotion may be required to serve a trial detail prior to being permanently promoted.
This posting may also be used to fill a vacancy as a temporary job appointment. If filled as a temporary job appointment, should a permanent position become available, the employee may be converted to a probational appointment.
Compensation: This position has a Special Entrance Rate (SER) at each level. However, the salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
Accounting Specialist 1 has an SER of $15.43 per hour
Accounting Specialist 2 has an SER of $16.51 per hour
Career Progression Group : ACCOUNTING SPECIALIST 1, OR 2
Filled at the highest level of experience of the selected applicant.
Salary depends on level of experience.
Work Environment: This position will be located in the Business Office, but expect to occasionally be in the presence of inmates.
