Summary This position is located in the Biomedical Engineering Section of Health Informatics Service at Battle Creek VA Medical Center in Battle Creek, MI. The Electronic Technician is responsible for the comprehensive management of electronic equipment and systems within Battle Creek VAMC System that have been deemed non-clinical or non-medical under the VHA Healthcare Technology Management program. Responsibilities THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION Major duties and responsibilities include but not limited to: Maintaining non-clinical electronic equipment and systems that support healthcare operations and facility services Installing, testing, troubleshooting, repairing, and calibrating electronic equipment and control systems to ensure reliable operation Supporting electronic systems such as nurse call, security, fire alarm, access control, communication, audio/visual, temperature monitoring, and wireless systems Performing scheduled preventive maintenance and responding to emergency repairs to minimize system downtime Troubleshooting hardware, software, networking, and electronic control system problems and restoring equipment to proper working condition Monitoring system performance and recommending repairs, replacements, or upgrades to improve reliability and safety Configuring electronic devices, software, and network-connected equipment to support facility operations Supporting Biomedical Engineering by maintaining electronic systems that are outside the Biomedical Equipment Support Specialist (BESS) scope of responsibility Managing equipment records, work orders, preventive maintenance schedules, and inventory using computerized maintenance management systems Maintaining accurate equipment inventories and documenting maintenance, repairs, and system changes Serving as a Contracting Officer's Representative (COR) when assigned and assisting with equipment installation and contractor oversight Purchasing equipment, parts, and supplies using a Government Purchase Card in accordance with Federal and VA acquisition policies Following information security procedures for handling, documenting, and transferring electronic media and data storage devices Responding to equipment failures and emergency service calls to restore critical systems and minimize disruptions to facility operations Providing technical assistance and training to staff on safe operation and proper use of supported electronic systems while performing other related duties as assigned Performing other related duties as assigned Work Schedule: Monday to Friday; 07:00 a.m. to 03:30 p.m. Recruitment & Relocation Incentives: Not authorized Critical Skills Incentive (CSI): Not Approved Requirements Conditions of Employment You must be a U.S. Citizen to apply for this job To be considered for this position, you must complete all required steps in the process. Qualifications Minimum Requirement: The following are minimum requirements for appointment as an Electronics Technician in the Veterans Health Administration (VHA), which all applicants must met. Specialized Experience (GS-11): You must have one (1) year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (i.e., GS-10). Qualifying examples of specialized experience include: (1) Work as a technician, instructor, inspector, or mechanic (civilian or military) that showed progression in theoretical and practical knowledge of electronic theory, and of the characteristics, function, operation, and capabilities of a variety of @types of electronic equipment. This experience must have included the use of schematic diagrams, a variety of test equipment, and the application of appropriate electronic formulas involved in such duties as testing, troubleshooting, modifying, designing, calibrating, installing, maintaining, repairing, constructing, developing, and instructing on electronic equipment, or similar functions; or (2) Experience in developing policies, standards, and procedures for maintenance, installation, or similar functions, provided the work clearly shows that the applicant applied a specialized knowledge of the theories and principles of a variety of electronic systems or equipment. NOTE: One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement.
