Job Title: Accounting ManagerJob Description
The Accounting Manager oversees and executes the organization's general accounting activities, including job cost accounting, financial close, financial reporting, and balance sheet integrity. This role ensures strict compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), internal policies, and applicable regulatory requirements. The Accounting Manager leads and develops the accounting team, partners closely with cross-functional departments, and drives continuous improvement in accounting processes, systems, and internal controls to support accurate, timely, and reliable financial information.
Responsibilities
Manage and oversee daily accounting operations, including general ledger activity, account reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
Ensure the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of financial records and reports in accordance with GAAP, company policies, and internal control requirements.
Supervise, coach, and develop accounting staff by assigning work, reviewing output, providing feedback, and supporting professional growth and performance standards.
Oversee job cost accounting activities, including monitoring work-in-process balances, reviewing cost allocations, and ensuring accurate recognition of cost of sales and related accruals.
Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements, management reports, and supporting schedules for internal and external stakeholders.
Support annual audits, tax filings, and other compliance-related activities by coordinating documentation, schedules, and responses to auditor and regulatory requests.
Maintain and strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and standard operating procedures to support financial integrity and mitigate risk.
Partner with operations, customer service, inventory, information technology, and finance teams to support business processes, resolve issues, and improve data quality.
Administer financial data uploads and reporting system activities, ensuring the completeness and accuracy of information submitted to consolidation or management reporting platforms.
Identify and implement process improvements that enhance efficiency, strengthen controls, and improve the quality and timeliness of financial reporting.
Lead the monthly close process, ensuring the books are closed accurately and on schedule while providing clear explanations for variances and key results.
Provide leadership that supports the growth and development of the accounting function, including identifying opportunities for expanded responsibilities and future advancement.
Perform other duties and special projects as assigned to support departmental and organizational objectives.
Essential Skills
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Minimum of seven years of progressively responsible accounting or finance experience, including prior supervisory or people leadership responsibility.
Demonstrated knowledge of GAAP, financial close processes, account reconciliation procedures, and internal control practices.
Proven experience managing general ledger activities, reconciliations, and month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
Ability to lead a team and effectively close the books on a monthly basis.
Experience with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems and financial reporting platforms.
Hands-on experience with Epicor or similar ERP systems.
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas, lookups, pivot tables, and working with large data sets.
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with a high level of attention to detail.
Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively in a dynamic environment.
Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact professionally across departments and organizational levels.
Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and meet established deadlines.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with financial reporting tools such as Hyperion, OneStream, or Adaptive Insights is preferred.
Demonstrated ability to identify and implement process improvements in accounting and reporting functions.
Experience administering financial data uploads and consolidation or management reporting platforms.
Proven track record of coaching and developing accounting staff and supporting their professional growth.
Interest in and capacity for future growth into expanded leadership responsibilities.
Work Environment
This is a fully onsite role in a professional office environment. The standard working hours are 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., providing a consistent daytime schedule. The Accounting Manager works closely with operations, customer service, inventory, information technology, and finance teams, fostering frequent cross-functional collaboration. The role involves daily use of enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, including Epicor, as well as financial reporting platforms and advanced Microsoft Excel.
