Field Service Technician - Buffalo/Seneca Area (National Travel)
Are you a hands-on problem solver who thrives in dynamic environments, enjoys travel, and takes pride in exceeding customer expectations? We are seeking an experienced Field Service Technician to join our growing team, providing advanced packaging equipment support to customers nationwide-with a strong concentration of work in the Buffalo/Seneca region.
About the Role:
As a Field Service Technician, you'll play a pivotal part in ensuring our custom machinery and automated systems perform at their best. Predominantly mechanically focused, this role is ideal for individuals who excel at troubleshooting, rebuilding, and maintaining equipment-often without detailed drawings due to the variety and age of machines in the field. You'll serve as the go-to expert for installations, repairs, audits, training, and customer support.
Key Responsibilities:
Install, commission, repair, and maintain automated packaging machinery at customer sites, focusing on strong mechanical skills (electrical knowledge needed, programming not required).
Troubleshoot and adjust equipment to ensure optimal performance and efficiency; conduct audits and implement upgrades.
Deliver on-site operator training and clearly document all service activities, installations, and repairs.
Advise customers on machine upgrades, retrofits, and spare parts to increase reliability and safety.
Conduct assembly, testing, and Factory Acceptance Testing of new machines at our main facility when not traveling.
Demonstrate resourcefulness and adaptability, thriving in diverse environments while resolving technical challenges independently or as part of a team.
Foster excellent communication, act as a brand ambassador, and consistently provide best-in-class customer service.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
3+ years' experience as a Field Service Technician or in an equivalent hands-on role involving medium to large-scale industrial equipment (experience with food packaging or similar industries strongly preferred).
High school diploma required; associate degree in a mechanical or electrical field is a plus.
Skilled in mechanical troubleshooting and repair, reading part/assembly drawings, wiring schematics, and basic electrical work (familiarity with PLC/HMI interfaces is valuable).
Organized, self-driven, adaptable, and professional, capable of managing schedules, paperwork, and technical demands in a fast-paced setting.
Strong communication and customer service skills; confident trainer and relationship builder at all levels.
Willing and able to travel up to 75%-primarily to customer sites nationwide, with a significant portion of work centered around Buffalo/Seneca and proximity to a major airport required.
Will participate in a structured training phase at our main facility (up to six months) before transitioning to independent and team field assignments.
Must have (or be able to obtain) a valid passport for occasional international travel (Canada and Mexico).
Compensation & Benefits:
Competitive hourly pay: $40.00-$45.00/hour (flexible for exceptional candidates)
Overtime pay: 1.5x after 8 hours/day and Saturdays, 2x on Sundays, 3x on holidays
Paid for all travel and working hours
Per diem for meals; hotel, airfare, and car rental covered and coordinated by company booking tools
Comprehensive benefits from day one: medical, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, paid time off, 401(k) with company match, and wellness program
Entrepreneurial, growth-focused team culture with excellent advancement opportunities
