Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
Information Technology Services (ITS) at Iowa State University is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Systems Analyst III to join the Identity Services team. This position offers the opportunity to lead the design, implementation, and support of enterprise identity and access management (IAM) solutions that enable the university's academic, research, and administrative missions.
The successful candidate will serve as a technical leader responsible for architecting and maintaining modern, cloud-based identity platforms and integrations. This role supports a complex identity ecosystem spanning Microsoft Entra ID, Active Directory, Azure, Microsoft 365, Exchange Online, Google Workspace for Education, and numerous connected applications utilizing SAML, OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, and single sign-on (SSO) technologies.
The ideal candidate brings extensive experience with enterprise identity and access management, cloud infrastructure, automation, systems integration, and security best practices. They will possess strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, demonstrate the ability to lead complex technical initiatives, and effectively collaborate with campus stakeholders, vendors, and technical teams. This individual will also mentor junior staff, contribute to strategic planning efforts, and drive improvements in identity governance, automation, and service reliability.
Example of Duties
Design, implement, and support enterprise identity and access management solutions including Microsoft Entra ID, Active Directory, Azure, Exchange Online, and Google Workspace for Education.
Lead the integration and support of authentication, authorization, and single sign-on technologies for university applications and services.
Manage identity lifecycle processes, including provisioning, deprovisioning, access governance, and security controls.
Develop automation and process improvements using scripting and modern identity technologies.
Serve as a technical lead on enterprise projects, providing architecture guidance, troubleshooting expertise, and implementation leadership.
Partner with campus stakeholders, vendors, and IT teams to deliver secure, reliable, and scalable identity services.
Preferred Qualifications:
IAM (Identity and Access Management) experience (Azure, Entra or similar)
Enterprise Suite administration experience (Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace for Education)
Active Directory Server administration experience
Scripting and automation experience (PowerShell, Bash)
Technical project leadership and cross-functional collaboration experience.
Higher education technology experience.

The Identity Services team within Information Technology Services (ITS) provides and supports the foundational identity, authentication, authorization, and access management services used across Iowa State University. The team is responsible for managing the technologies and processes that enable secure access to university systems, applications, and data for students, faculty, staff, affiliates, and guests.
Identity Services partners closely with campus stakeholders to deliver modern, secure, and scalable identity solutions that support Iowa State University's teaching, research, extension, and administrative missions. Current initiatives include identity governance, lifecycle automation, cloud identity modernization, access management, and enterprise authentication services.
