Overview
The Division of Physical Therapy in the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences of the School of Health Sciences and Practice at New York Medical College invites applications for the position of Director of Clinical Education. The Division offers an innovative curriculum that leads to a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. The Division enjoys regular professional interactions with graduate programs within the School of Health Sciences and Practice, the School of Medicine, the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, and the Touro College of Dental Medicine. On-campus clinical sites include Westchester Medical Center, Maria Fareri Children's Hospital, and the Division of Speech-Language Pathology. We also work with numerous hospitals, rehabilitation centers, and private practice clinics, providing opportunities for clinical and research collaborations.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities will include clinical education coordination, student support and evaluation, managing clinical education relationships with clinical partners and educators, maintaining compliance and accreditation standards, occasional travel to clinical sites, and other clinical teaching/administrative duties as assigned by the Program Director.
Qualifications
Qualified applicants will ideally have prior experience in academic or clinical education coordination, knowledge of CAPTE's accreditation standards and clinical hours requirements, experience with clinical tracking software systems, leadership or administrative experience in healthcare or academic settings, and a commitment to student success. The selected applicant will work closely with the Program Director and Department Chair, who will provide regular guidance and support. The preferred competencies include a commitment to student-centered clinical education, strong collaborative and relationship-building skills, strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines, problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills, and experience in cultural competence.
Applicants must have a minimum of a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree; an earned academic doctoral degree (Ph.D., Ed.D., DSc, or equivalent) or additional clinical specialization(s) would be preferred; transitional DPT or post-professional doctoral degree will be considered. Current, unrestricted license to practice physical therapy in the state (or eligibility for licensure). Minimum of three years of full-time clinical experience in physical therapy practice; experience across diverse practice settings preferred, and a minimum of two years of clinical practice as an SCCE or CI, or two years of experience in teaching, curriculum development, and administration in a physical therapist education program. Demonstrated experience in clinical education, including supervision of physical therapist students. Knowledge of CAPTE accreditation standards and APTA clinical education guidelines. Experience in academic program administration, assessment, or accreditation processes preferred.
Other preferred qualifications include APTA Credentialed Clinical Instructor (CI) certification, American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS) specialization(s), and Active membership in the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), American Council of Academic Physical Therapy (ACAPT) and the APTA Academy of Education (APTA-AOE).
