Summary Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System, Little Rock, Arkansas is a highly active, Medical College affiliated VA Medical Center of 569 beds located at two different campuses each with complete physical plants six miles apart and occupying a total of 107 buildings with 2,256,323 square feet gross area of floor space and 211 acres of land with approximately 2800 pieces of equipment. Responsibilities Installs and repairs items on the above systems and equipment such as valves, fittings, traps, fixtures, drains, etc. Works from building plans, blueprints and sketches, and oral orders to plan and lay out the routing, placement, pitch, elevation, pressure, reductions, expansions, slope, and proper operation of various piping systems and equipment. Maintains therapeutic swimming pool equipment such as heating and proper circulating of the water Places the equipment at the proper level and points in the system, and joining, sealing and testing systems and equipment for proper pressure, leak-free joints and operation. This requires the employee to stand, stoop, bend, knell, climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently handles, lifts, carries and set up parts and equipment that weigh up to 50 pounds or more. Working Conditions: The work is performed inside and outside and is subject to be dirty, dusty and greasy. Sometimes required to make repairs and installations in bad, smelly places, outside in cold and hot weather. Frequently exposed to the possibility of strains, cuts, scrapes, bruises, burns and infections. Works with high, medium and low pressure steam, hot water, contaminated sewage and potential electrical hazards.
