Summary THIS IS A TITLE 32 DUAL STATUS POSITION DUTY LOCATION: 103d Maintenance Squadron (103d MXS), East Granby, CT AREA(S) OF CONSIDERATION: Area 1: All currently employed full-time permanent and indefinite personnel of the CTANG. Area 2: All currently employed full-time temporary technician personnel and all current traditional members of the CTANG. Area 3: Individuals eligible for membership in the CTANG. Membership must be satisfied within four (4) months of selection. Responsibilities JOB SUMMARY: The primary purpose of this position is to maintain, troubleshoot, remove, repair, install, certify, test and perform operational checks on the turboprop engines, propellers, and associated propulsion system components. NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. This is an excepted position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the Connecticut Air National Guard. Applicants who are not currently a member of the Connecticut Air National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the Connecticut Air National Guard. The major duties include, but are not limited to: Removes, installs, certifies, repairs, modifies, overhauls, and installs turboprop engines, reduction gear boxes, turbine modules, compressor modules, auxiliary power units, propellers and related propeller components as required. Modifies engines, propellers, auxiliary power units, and components in accordance with Time Compliance Technical Orders (TCTO) directives; removes and installs engine quick change kits; prepares engines for installation and installs engine and propeller assemblies on aircraft. Performs operational checks of installed propellers, engines, auxiliary power units and sub-systems during aircraft maintenance ground runs in accordance with approved checklists. Performs isochronal and special evaluations on engines, propellers and auxiliary power units. Performs aircraft full power runs and complete engine and propeller efficiency checks. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work assignments are performed indoors and outdoors in inclement weather; on icy, wet, and slippery ramps, aircraft surfaces, work stands; and in extreme temperature and humidity. The incumbent is subject to dangers from toxic fumes, dust, dirt, grease, lubricants, paints, and solvents. Dangers also involve high-pressure air and fluids, and fast actuating metal aircraft surfaces such as landing gears, speed brakes, and flaps. Work assignments are subject to engine noise, heat blast, intake suction, rotating propellers, explosive munitions, electrical voltage, cartridge actuating devices, liquid oxygen, and flammable and explosive aircraft fuels, etc. There is frequent exposure to the possibility of cuts, burns, electrical shock, strains, and bone fractures. PHYSICAL EFFORT: The incumbent is required to stand, stoop, bend, and reach. The incumbent frequently lifts equipment and components weighing up to 10 pounds, and often lifts and carries assemblies weighing up to 50 pounds. Hoists, hand trucks, lifts, and other employees are available to assist when handling heavy or awkward items. Work assignments require the employee to climb steps and ladders and stand on slippery or inclined surfaces. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training that has provided the ability to perform assembly and disassembly operations and make prescribed modifications to aircraft engines, engine assemblies, and accessories in accordance with technical specifications, procedures and requirements. Experience using hand and power tools common to the trade. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Your resume and any other supporting documentation you wish to provide must clearly substantiate you currently possess 6, 12 or 18 months of specialized experience in the following: WG-05 REQUIRES 6 MONTHS: Experience using common hand tools in making repetitive mechanical repairs under close supervision. Experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the simpler and routine duties of the trade. WG-08 REQUIRES 12 MONTHS: Experience or training removing and installing components and accessories with detailed guidance. Experience in following detailed instructions in making minor repairs and modifications to aircraft engines, subassemblies and components. WG-10 REQUIRES 18 MONTHS: Experience or training performing standard, routine assembly and disassembly operations and making prescribed modifications to aircraft engines, engine assemblies, and accessories. Experience or training performing maintenance overhaul, troubleshooting, testing, and repair of aircraft engines, engine components, and power trains for fixed and/or rotary wing aircraft. Experience determining maintenance needed from work orders, inspection reports, historical record, and by own diagnosis. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of mechanical, hydromechanics, electrical, electronic, and pneudraulic principles and systems, that apply to turboprop engines and propellers. Skill in the interpretation and use of technical orders and manuals, manufacturers' specifications, factory engineering bulletins, flow charts/wiring diagrams and other related technical guidance. Skill in troubleshooting, diagnosing defects, certifying, conducting bench and operational checks, disassembly, repairing, modifying, testing, cleaning, assembly and installation of turboprop engine and propeller systems, sub-systems and components such the integrated synchrophasing system, reduction gear box, torque meter assembly, fuel scheduling system and electrical components and control assemblies. Skill in the use of test equipment such as computer borescopes, fuel gauges, air gauges, and alignment fixtures; special tools and precision measuring equipment; high pressure hydraulic test equipment; dynamic propeller balancing equipment; and engine vibration analyzers. Skill in operating and maintaining the engine test/trim automated system (ETTAS) on the engine test cell to evaluate, identify and correct propeller and engine components causing vibration or impending failure. COMPATIBLE MILITARY ASSIGNMENT: All applications will be considered regardless of AFSC. Incumbent will be required to be assigned to compatible military position within 1 year of selection. The selected individual may be required to attend formal technician school training. STATEMENT OF DIFFERENCE: Individual selected at a lower level will be issued a Statement of Difference. Predicated upon qualifications, individual could be hired at the WG-10 grade. An individual selected for this position at the lower grade will progressively be advanced to WG-10 upon achievement of required qualifications without further competition.
