About this Role
The Construction Advisor is responsible for improving constructability and execution readiness on large-scale electrical transmission and distribution projects. This role partners with field leadership, customer engineering, and project teams to identify construction risks early, align designs with safe and efficient means and methods, and support consistent delivery in accordance with applicable utility requirements and regulatory standards. The Construction Advisor provides constructability reviews, execution planning support, and field-driven technical guidance, including evaluation of construction sequencing, access/ROW constraints, outage and switching considerations, material handling and logistics, and work packaging. With a secondary focus on Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC), the role supports inspection readiness, documentation, and corrective actions to ensure work meets customer specifications and company standards.
What You'll Do
Constructability & Execution Planning
Lead constructability reviews for assigned work, identifying scope gaps, safety concerns, and field constraints; recommend practical adjustments to improve execution.
Support execution planning by validating construction sequencing, crew approach, equipment needs, and work packages; highlight critical-path constraints and mitigation actions.
Evaluate resource and equipment plans (crews, specialty tools, cranes, access equipment) to ensure alignment with selected means and methods, site conditions, and constructability constraints.
Verify field conditions against plans and specifications; maintain redlines, as-builts, and constructability notes to support accurate design updates and closeout documentation.
Identify and communicate constructability-driven risks (access/ROW, permitting, outages/switching windows, sequencing conflicts, material lead times) and support timely resolution with internal and customer teams.
Support constructability-driven alternatives and value improvements (means/methods, phasing, material substitutions where permitted) by evaluating productivity, safety, and quality impacts.
Customer Relationship Management
Coordinate directly with customer engineering and project teams to align design intent with field conditions, constructability constraints, and execution sequencing.
Participate in customer meetings to review constructability, construction sequencing, outage/switching considerations, access/ROW constraints, and field conditions; drive timely decisions and issue resolution.
Provide constructability input during planning and design reviews, including development of RFIs, field clarifications, and redlines to support safe, practical, and efficient construction execution.
Build and maintain strong working relationships with key customer contacts at AEP, Dominion Energy, and other utility partners operating within the division's service area.
Represent Service Electric Company professionally in all customer interactions, reinforcing the organization's standards for safety, quality, and field execution.
Facilitate timely resolution of field-level issues by coordinating directly with customer representatives and internal project management staff Documentation and Reporting.
Quality Assurance & Quality Control
With a secondary focus on QA/QC, support the division's Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) program in accordance with customer specifications and company standards.
Establish and enforce construction quality standards consistent with applicable utility requirements, industry codes, and Service Electric Company best practices.
Support inspection and test planning (e.g., Inspection & Test Plans, hold points, turnover requirements) to align quality verification with the construction sequence.
Conduct regular field inspections and quality audits to verify that work is performed in accordance with approved plans, specifications, and quality standards.
Identify quality deficiencies and ensure timely corrective action is taken; document findings and track resolution through closeout.
Collaborate with project managers, superintendents, and field crews to foster a culture of quality and continuous improvement across all construction activities.
Support compilation of turnover packages (as-builts, test results, inspection records, nonconformance documentation) to meet customer and regulatory closeout requirements.
Maintain QA/QC records and documentation required by customers and regulatory authorities; support customer quality audits and reviews as needed.
What You'll Bring
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field or equivalent knowledge or skills obtained through a combination of education, training, and experience.
7+ Years of progressive experience in electrical utility construction with increasing levels of field and project leadership responsibility.
Demonstrated background in electrical utility construction with direct, hands-on experience in transmission and/or distribution systems.
Experience developing or administering a formal QA/QC program in a utility construction environment, a plus.
Familiarity with AEP and/or Dominion Energy construction standards, specifications, and project delivery processes, a plus.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Proven ability to read, interpret, and apply engineering drawings, construction specifications, and utility construction standards.
Strong experience in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel.
Organized with a strong attention to detail.
Strong ability to identify and solve issues.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
This position requires regular presence in both office settings and active construction field environments, including outdoor job sites subject to variable weather and terrain conditions.
Must be able to traverse rough or uneven terrain and access energized or de-energized construction work zones in compliance with all applicable safety protocols and personal protective equipment requirements.
Must be able to travel and work extended hours, including evenings and weekends, during critical project phases or in response to emergent field conditions.
