Job Summary:
The Industrial Hygiene Specialist I supports the anticipation, recognition, evaluation, and control of occupational health hazards within PECNA's manufacturing operations. This role focuses on assisting with industrial hygiene programs, conducting exposure monitoring under guidance, and helping implement hazard controls to protect employee health and support regulatory compliance. Working under general direction, the Specialist contributes to site safety objectives through data collection, collaboration with cross-functional teams, and participation in continuous improvement initiatives. The position operates without supervisory responsibility and serves as a developing technical resource within a high-hazard manufacturing environment.
Essential Duties:
Functional Operations:
Assist with industrial hygiene monitoring, sampling, and assessments for chemical, physical, biological, and other occupational health hazards
Support exposure assessments and help evaluate results in accordance with OSHA, NIOSH, ACGIH, and applicable regulatory and corporate standards
Support the implementation and maintenance of industrial hygiene programs, procedures, and standard work aligned with ISO 45001 requirements
Participate in workplace evaluations of processes, materials, and equipment to support recommendations for engineering, administrative, or PPE controls
Performance Optimization & Continuous Improvement:
Assist in the collection and organization of industrial hygiene data to identify trends and potential risks
Support continuous improvement initiatives related to exposure reduction, risk mitigation, and operational safety performance
Participate in the development and execution of exposure monitoring activities and control measures
Apply basic problem-solving techniques to support investigation and resolution of identified health hazards
Training & Team Support:
Support industrial hygiene and occupational health training initiatives through preparation of materials and coordination
Assist site teams in understanding IH requirements, monitoring activities, and control measures
Provide general support to safety professionals, engineers, and operations personnel on industrial hygiene topics
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Communication:
Collaborate with Production, Engineering, Maintenance, Safety, and EHS teams to support integration of industrial hygiene practices into daily operations
Coordinate with site Medical personnel on inclusion and management of employees into the site medical surveillance program
Communicate monitoring activities, results, and general recommendations to employees and team members
Assist in coordination with consultants, laboratories, and vendors supporting industrial hygiene assessments or controls
Quality, Safety, & Compliance:
Support compliance with local, state, and federal occupational health regulations and applicable standards
Participate in internal audits, inspections, and assessments related to industrial hygiene and health compliance
Maintain accurate records, documentation, and reports related to exposure monitoring and assessments
Support incident investigations related to occupational health exposures or IH-related findings
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Requirements:
To ensure the health and safety in the workplace and for the protection of our employees, wearing PPE is a possibility and may include equipment such as a full Tyvek suit, safety shoes, gloves, safety glasses, face mask, bump cap, and a full hazmat suit that includes a respirator.

Qualifications
Requirements - Required and/or Preferred
Education, Certifications, and Licenses:
Required :
Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, or a related technical field
Relevant work experience may be substituted for required education
Preferred:
Master's Degree in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, or a related technical field
Industrial Hygiene-related professional certifications or active pursuit of certifications (e.g., CIH, CSP)
Completion of advanced training in exposure assessment, ventilation, chemical hazard evaluation, or occupational health monitoring
Essential Qualifications:
Foundational knowledge of industrial hygiene principles, exposure assessment methods, and hazard control strategies, with relevant experience gained through academic, internship, or work environments
Familiarity with OSHA, NIOSH, ACGIH, ANSI, or NFPA standards applicable to occupational health and safety
Basic experience or academic exposure to conducting exposure monitoring and interpreting results
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to learn and apply technical concepts
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Ability to respond to site emergencies as needed
Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking English

Preferred Qualifications:
2+ years of industrial hygiene or occupational health experience
Internship or co-op experience in manufacturing, industrial, or laboratory environments
Exposure to high-volume manufacturing or related industries such as electronics, automotive, chemical, or energy storage
Familiarity with ISO 45001-aligned safety or health management systems
Experience with EHS or IH data management systems (e.g., Cority, Enablon, VelocityEHS)
Exposure to exposure monitoring programs, ventilation basics, or chemical safety practices
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Requirements:
To ensure health and safety in the workplace and for employee protection, wearing PPE is required and includes equipment such as a full Tyvek suit, safety shoes, gloves, safety glasses, face mask, and a full hazmat suit that includes a respirator. A respirator fit test will be required based on functional area.
