THE POSITION
Are you interested in developing practical accounting experience in a supportive and structured environment? The Accounting Assistant role with the Department of Corrections at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Muncy provides a meaningful way to contribute to essential financial processes. You will work with accounting records, inmate accounts, and office systems that are vital to daily operations. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position provides important accounting and office support that keeps financial operations accurate, organized, and compliant with policy. The role supports inmate banking, financial reporting, account maintenance, and daily business office functions. As an Accounting Assistant, you will perform the following duties:
Inmate Accounting: Process deposits, payments, account transfers, statements, and record updates through automated systems
Financial Tracking: Post entries, verify balances, review documents, and prepare records for reconciliation and reporting
Record Maintenance: Store, organize, and update accounting files and documents according to retention requirements
Account Support: Assist with general fund activities, invoice processing, credit card reviews, and preparation of financial worksheets
System Usage: Use accounting software and banking systems to input data, review transactions, and run required reports
Office Assistance: Respond to questions, handle paperwork, file documents, and support daily operations within the business office

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
Work hours are 8:15 AM to 4:15 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
Telework: Y ou will not have the option to telework in this position.
Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $41,506.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
Two years of experience performing bookkeeping or clerical accounting work;or
An Associate Degree in accounting or business administration including or supplemented by six credits of accounting.
Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits.
Additional Requirements:
Successful completion of the training academy in Elizabethtown, PA, is required.
You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Legal Requirements:
You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
