Staff Accountant | Architecture & Professional Services
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to oversee day-to-day accounting operations while providing critical financial reporting, analysis, and operational support. This role combines hands-on accounting responsibilities with strategic financial oversight and serves as a key resource for leadership on financial performance, compliance, and process improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain the general ledger by accurately recording, reconciling, and reviewing financial transactions.
Manage the full accounts payable and accounts receivable cycle, including invoicing, collections, vendor payments, and account reconciliations.
Perform credit card reconciliations across multiple accounts and users.
Monitor cash flow, expenditures, and overall financial activity to support business operations.
Prepare weekly, monthly, and ad hoc financial reports for leadership teams.
Track budgets, analyze expenses, and monitor project profitability.
Support revenue recognition processes tied to project milestones, contracts, and professional services engagements.
Process payroll, manage employee timesheets, and coordinate with HR on payroll-related matters.
Maintain business insurance policies, oversee renewals, and manage compliance documentation.
Partner with external CPAs, tax advisors, and consultants to support reporting, audits, and tax preparation.
Ensure compliance with multi-state tax regulations and maintain audit readiness.
Lead month-end and year-end close activities, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, internal controls, and financial workflows.
Serve as the primary point of contact for accounting and financial operations inquiries.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
Proven experience in full-cycle accounting, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, and general ledger management.
Proficiency with QuickBooks or comparable ERP/accounting systems.
Strong financial reporting and month-end close experience.
Experience processing payroll and managing job costing or project-based accounting.
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities independently while meeting deadlines.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with leadership, vendors, employees, and external partners.
High level of professionalism and discretion when handling confidential financial information.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience within architecture, engineering, construction, or professional services environments.
Knowledge of project accounting and revenue recognition practices.
Familiarity with multi-state tax compliance and regulatory requirements.
Experience managing business insurance programs, including general liability and workers' compensation policies.
Knowledge in budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling.
Experience implementing process improvements and strengthening internal controls.
Knowledge of vendor contract compliance and financial risk management.
Work Environment
This position operates within a collaborative professional services environment and works closely with leadership, HR, external advisors, vendors, and project teams. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $32.00 - $36.00/hr.
