The University of Miami/UHealth Department of Orthopedics has an exciting opportunity for a full time Medical Assistant 2 to work in Miami, FL. The Medical Assistant 2 performs multi-skilled tasks to assist the medical providers. The Medical Assistant 2 assists patients' healthcare management and clinical procedures in a culturally competent manner utilizing evidence-based standards of quality, safety, and service. The Medical Assistant 2 provides hands-on care to patients while adhering to regulatory requirements, standards of care, and institutional policies and procedures, under the direct supervision and responsibility of a licensed physician. The physician in charge may delegate the tasks to oversee the MA 2 to a Nurse or Designee in charge of the unit/clinic. The incumbent adheres to ethical and legal standards of professional practice, recognize, respond to emergencies, and demonstrate professionalism. The role provides care within the philosophy, mission, vision, and values, as well as within the policies and procedures of the Department of Nursing and the University of Miami. As a professional, monitors the quality of care provided and nurtures a compassionate and healing environment. The Medical Assistant 2 works directly with the Nurse Manager/Nurse Supervisor/Charge Nurse and/or the Designee in charge of the Unit or Clinic to ensure a safe delivery of care that supports the UHealth mission.

Ensures compliance with all State and Federal regulatory guidelines to include Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
Performs professionally within their clinical scope of practice skills utilizing State, Federal, and University of Miami's standards, guidelines, relevant statues, rules, and regulations. Incorporates protocols and standards of care into daily practice.
Accepts and provides focused constructive feedback and guidance with loving kindness in a manner that provides growth and maintains self-esteem.
Abides by the standards for ethical behavior, therapeutic communication and protecting the privacy of patient information.
Assists providers with physical examinations by preparing treatment/exam room with proper supplies, instruments, and materials, as directed.
Understands the importance of medical and surgical asepsis. Prepares patients for physician's care with basic instruction and information regarding examination procedures.
Perform vital signs, EKG, phlebotomy, and document in patient's medical record.
Cleans and/or sterilizes medical instruments while observing principles of sterile technique. Schedules patients for tests and completes required forms for laboratory work.
Maintains accurate and complete patient records and documentation. Orders, stocks, and inventories supplies, and assists in performing clerical duties.
Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Education:High School Diploma or equivalent/relevant experience, certification or license
Certification and Licensing:
Required
Credentialed Medical Assistant certification from a recognized accrediting or certifying body organization (See approved Certifications listed below).
Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) - Certification from American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)®
Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) (Certification from American Medical Technologists (AMT)
Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) (Certification from National Healthcare Association (NHA)
National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) credential is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA)
Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) obtained by the National Association for Health Professionals. (NAHP)

Department Specific Functions
Charge role facilitating the operations of the area in the absence of the supervisor/manager.
Obtains vital signs and patient information for inclusion in the patient's medical record.
Administers injections or treatments, performs routine laboratory tests, and assists in other patient care activities, such as dressing changes and leg wraps.
Prepares treatment room for examination of patient.
Assists with physical examinations by preparing supplies and handing instruments and materials to the doctor as directed.
Provides patients with basic instruction and information regarding examination procedures.
Cleans and sterilizes medical instruments while observing the principles of sterile technique. Schedules patients for tests and completes required forms for laboratory work.
Maintains accurate and complete patient records and documentation.
Orders, stocks, and inventories supplies and escorts and transports patients to various hospital locations.
Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
Orients new staff on medical assistant responsibilities based on physician preference.
Performs quality improvement audits.
Performs high level disinfection in a high risk, high volume and fast paced Orthopaedics clinic.
Assists in procedure room set up in preparation of physician assessment and intervention.
Maintains patient centered care, engagement, and positive outcomes
