Job Title: Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse
Job Description
This role seeks an experienced Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse to join a high-performing Women's Services team within a Level II Trauma Center. You will provide comprehensive care to mothers and babies throughout the birthing process, manage complex clinical situations, and thrive in a fast-paced environment while delivering safe, compassionate, and evidence-based patient care.
Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive nursing care to laboring and postpartum patients, including ongoing assessment and support throughout the birthing experience.
Monitor maternal and fetal well-being using electronic fetal monitoring, including recognition and treatment of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns.
Perform and interpret fetal heart monitoring, including use of external fetal monitoring and adherence to AWHONN Intermediate or Relias fetal heart rate standards.
Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care plans throughout labor, delivery, and immediate postpartum periods.
Circulate during cesarean sections and obstetrical procedures, ensuring safe, coordinated care in the operating room.
Scrub for cesarean sections when needed, supporting the surgical team with sterile technique and intraoperative patient care.
Provide antepartum care and procedures, including sterile vaginal exams and monitoring for high-risk conditions.
Collaborate closely with physicians, midwives, NICU staff, and interdisciplinary team members to optimize maternal and neonatal outcomes.
Utilize Epic EMR to document assessments, interventions, medications, and patient responses accurately and efficiently.
Use advanced obstetrical equipment and technology such as Triton quantitative blood loss AI, Surgicount, and Monica Novii wireless monitoring to support clinical decision-making.
Float within scope of practice to the Mother-Baby Unit and NICU as needed, maintaining continuity and quality of care across units.
Support patient and family education regarding labor, delivery, postpartum recovery, and newborn care.
Maintain strict adherence to clinical protocols, safety standards, and infection control practices during all patient encounters.
Essential Skills
Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing.
Minimum of 2 years of recent experience in Labor & Delivery nursing.
Demonstrated proficiency in electronic fetal monitoring, including recognition and management of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns.
Experience using Epic EMR in an acute care or obstetrical setting.
Strong clinical skills in antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum care, including sterile vaginal exams and labor management.
Ability to circulate for cesarean sections and obstetrical procedures within a Level II Trauma Center environment.
Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification.
Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
Current NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification.
Completion of AWHONN Intermediate or Relias Fetal Heart Rate course, or ability to obtain access and complete prior to assignment.
Ability to work night shifts and every other weekend while maintaining high standards of patient care.
Strong communication, collaboration, and critical-thinking skills in high-acuity, fast-paced clinical settings.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Scrub experience for cesarean sections, including familiarity with sterile technique and surgical workflows.
Experience providing OB assist support during deliveries and obstetrical procedures.
Background in NICU and Mother-Baby care, with ability to float between units within scope of practice.
Experience with antepartum care and procedures, including monitoring high-risk pregnancies.
Prior travel nursing experience is welcomed but not required.
Comfort working with advanced obstetrical technologies such as Triton quantitative blood loss AI, Surgicount, and Monica Novii wireless monitoring systems.
Experience in labor and delivery management, including coordination of care across interdisciplinary teams.
Flexibility to adapt to varying patient volumes and census, averaging approximately five deliveries per day.
Ability to manage a patient ratio of approximately 1:2 in a labor and delivery setting.
Work Environment
This position is based in a Level II Trauma Center within a high-performing Women's Services department that averages approximately five deliveries per day. You will work night shifts from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM, typically three 12-hour shifts per week, with an every-other-weekend requirement and no on-call obligations. The patient ratio is generally 1:2, and you may float, within your scope of practice, to the Mother-Baby Unit and NICU as needed. The clinical environment is fast-paced and technology-driven, utilizing Epic EMR, Triton quantitative blood loss AI, Surgicount, and the Monica Novii wireless monitoring system to support safe, efficient care. Scheduling is subject to facility needs, block scheduling cannot be guaranteed, and time-off requests are limited, with excessive requests unlikely to be approved. The facility follows structured billing guidelines for guaranteed hours and welcomes both local candidates and first-time travelers. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $64.00/hr.
