Farnsworth Aerospace Upper is hiring an Education Assistant 1 for the 2026 - 2027 SY!
Minimum Qualifications
Must be bilingual in English and Hmong. Please indicate on your resume your language proficiency.
One of the following:
An AA, AS, AAS (or higher) degree, or
Two years of post-secondary coursework (60 semester credits or 90 quarter credits) from an accredited institution of higher education which are applicable toward a bachelor's degree, or
A passing score of 460 (or higher) on the ParaPro or ParaEducator Assessment and either a high school diploma or a GED certificate.
Experience working with school-aged children in a structured setting (e.g. Teaching Assistant, tutoring or related experience).
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in a school setting.
Experience and skill in using computers or the ability and willingness to develop such skill.
Knowledge of the Saint Paul Public Schools and its programs and educational services.
Knowledge and understanding of the ELL Program.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of community organizations and agencies available to provide services for bilingual families and how to utilize these resources to assist students and/or their families.
Knowledge of the customs and traditions needed to communicate effectively with students and parents who speak the language of the Educational Assistant and an awareness of the implications/connotations of the language used in translations.
Knowledge of computer software programs (e.g., Campus, Access, Microsoft word, Excel, Power Point and/or others) that are applicable to performing job duties.
Knowledge of student behavior management techniques.
Excellent communication skills in English and another language (speaking, reading and writing). Candidates will be required to participate in a formal demonstration of proficiency in each language.
Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with administrators, teachers, support staff, parents and students.
Ability to work independently or with minimal supervision.
Sensitivity to needs of ELL learners and their parents, especially as it relates to school (e.g., attendance achievement, problems and related topics.).
Desire to provide assistant to ELL parents and students to promote school success.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The essential job functions include, but are not limited to, the following fundamental duties:
Promote effective communication and understanding among students' homes, schools and the community by using both the language for which a particular Educational Assistant position is hired and English (speaking, reading and writing). * Interpret for parents at school conferences with teachers and other school personnel; translate and/or interpret various @types of information from schools, including information regarding current activities and special events. * Communicate information about ELL and bilingual services to parents; contact parents to inform them about scheduling meetings to address academic or behavior issues with their child, a child's illness or other school related Issues).
Make home visits to assist parents to better understand the school system * Assist parents in their advocacy of supporting their child(ren)'s academic progress and in provided resources (e.g., assisting with completing forms, making medical appointment for student immunizations and related activities). * Make follow-up contacts with parents when important school notices have been sent home. * Contact teacher(s) to communicate parental concerns or questions or vice versa. * Promote engagement with school groups and school and district activities. * Under the direction of the classroom teacher or principal, provide bilingual assistance in the instruction and assessment of the ELL students in designated content areas. * Assist the instructional team by providing tutoring to individual students or small groups of students. * Participate in regularly scheduled meetings of bilingual project staff. * Maintain up-to-date information about various departments, agencies and organizations within Saint Paul Public Schools and in the community. * Maintain computerized student records. * Coordinate the arrangements for additional interpreters for parent conferences. * May be required to perform bus duty and monitor recess and/or lunch. * Perform other-related duties as assigned.
PAY, BENEFITS & WORK SCHEDULE This is a 10-month position working 37.5 hours per week. Pay range for this position is: $23.24 - $33.32 EA1 Maximum hiring step EA1 = step fourteen (14) The full salary schedule is listed in the Teachers contract.
