Job Description
The Mechanical Installer Technician is responsible for installing, assembling, and integrating mechanical systems and semiconductor manufacturing equipment within cleanroom fab environments. This role ensures that process tools, mechanical components, and supporting infrastructure are installed in accordance with engineering specifications, safety standards, and industry best practices. The position requires approximately 75% travel to locations including Portland, OR; Phoenix, AZ; Austin, TX; and Taiwan, so comfort with frequent national and international travel and possession of a valid passport or Real ID are essential.
Compensation
$24-32/hr. depending on experience
Per diem, lodging, travel, transportation etc. all covered
Shift
Day shift, FHD/BHD 12hr shifts typical to industry. 2-2-3 Schedule
Responsibilities
Install semiconductor process equipment such as lithography, etch, deposition, and CMP tools in alignment with OEM specifications.
Perform mechanical assembly of tool subcomponents, including frames, vacuum systems, gas panels, chillers, and piping systems.
Align and level equipment using precision measuring instruments to meet required tolerances.
Assist with equipment moves, rigging, and positioning of tools within the fab.
Install and connect piping systems, including ultra-high purity gas lines, chemical delivery systems, process cooling water, and vacuum systems.
Support the hook-up of utilities and verify that all connections meet cleanroom and safety standards.
Conduct leak checks, pressure testing, and system verification on installed mechanical and piping systems.
Perform all work in accordance with cleanroom protocols for ISO class environments and follow contamination control procedures and gowning requirements.
Maintain strict adherence to Environmental, Health, and Safety regulations while performing installation and support activities.
Interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, schematics, and installation manuals to plan and execute installations.
Complete installation documentation, checklists, and redlines to accurately record work performed and any changes made.
Support quality checks and inspections to ensure installations meet required mechanical and dimensional tolerances.
Assist engineers and Sr. technicians in diagnosing mechanical issues encountered during installation and integration.
Perform rework or adjustments to mechanical systems and equipment as needed to meet engineering specifications.
Support startup and commissioning activities for newly installed semiconductor process tools and related systems.
Provide onsite technical support at regional and overseas sites, which may involve heavy lifting of equipment and modules.
Work effectively under deadlines and adapt to changing project priorities in a production and laboratory setting.
Essential Skills
2-5 years of experience in mechanical installation, preferably in semiconductor, cleanroom, or industrial environments.
Hands-on experience working with hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring equipment.
Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, blueprints, and installation manuals.
Experience in fab, cleanroom, semiconductor, wafer, or chip production settings.
Proficiency in mechanical assembly, inspection, and quality assurance activities.
Strong troubleshooting skills for mechanical systems, with the ability to identify and resolve installation issues.
Capability to perform maintenance, installation, and repair tasks on complex mechanical equipment.
Comfort with extensive national and international travel (approximately 75%) and possession of a valid passport or Real ID.
Ability to work safely and consistently in ISO-class cleanroom environments while adhering to gowning and contamination control procedures.
Physical ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds, and to sit, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, twist, reach, and stretch as required by the role.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience working directly in semiconductor fabs or cleanroom production environments.
Familiarity with ultra-high purity gas systems, vacuum systems, and chemical piping installations.
Certification in rigging, OSHA safety, or related technical disciplines.
Ability to interpret P&IDs and complex engineering documentation for mechanical and piping systems.
Experience supporting startup, commissioning, and ongoing technical support for semiconductor process tools.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to following quality assurance and inspection procedures.
Ability to work effectively under project deadlines and in environments with moderate noise and temperature levels.

Work Environment
The role is based primarily in cleanroom production and laboratory settings with moderate temperature and noise levels. Work involves routine sitting, walking, talking, hearing, and extensive use of hands to keyboard, finger, handle, and feel, as well as stooping, kneeling, crouching, twisting, reaching, and stretching. You will adhere to strict gowning requirements for extended periods in ISO-class cleanrooms and follow contamination control procedures at all times. The position occasionally requires moving around large campuses and lifting or moving equipment and modules weighing up to 50 pounds. Responsibilities include periodic travel to regional and overseas sites for product technical support and special projects, with approximately 75% travel expected. All tools required to perform the job are provided, and work is conducted under deadlines in environments that are generally moderate in temperature and noise.
