Job Title: CNC Machinist - Weekend 3rd Shift
Job Description
Join a high-precision aerospace machining team as a CNC Machinist on the weekend 3rd shift. You will operate 5-axis CNC mills or lathes in the HMPT department to produce complex, close-tolerance components for defense applications. Training will be provided on 1st shift for 30-90 days before transitioning to the weekend 3rd shift schedule.
Responsibilities
Operate 5-axis CNC mills or lathes to produce the required quantity of accurate parts in a timely manner according to customer process documentation.
Run multiple pieces of equipment simultaneously when needed while maintaining quality and efficiency.
Correctly set up jobs on assigned machines, including performing tool changes and verifying proper setup.
Perform first-piece, in-process, and last-piece inspections using micrometers, calipers, comparators, various gauges, and CMM equipment in accordance with process documentation.
Interpret and apply GD&T requirements to ensure parts meet all dimensional and geometric specifications.
Use Job Boss and other applications to complete data collection and communication tasks related to production and quality.
Perform routine operator maintenance on assigned machines to ensure safe and efficient operation.
Diagnose and correct equipment or tooling issues to minimize downtime and maintain part quality.
Work within the HMPT department to produce parts for defense-related applications where gauging and precise measuring are critical.
Follow all established safety, quality, and process standards in a job shop environment with complex aerospace components.
Essential Skills
At least 3 years of CNC machining experience on 5-axis machines.
Strong understanding of machining center theory, including x, y, and z axes and edge and centerline pickup.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and process documentation for complex aerospace parts.
Proficiency in using common measuring equipment such as micrometers, calipers, pin gauges, thread gauges, indicator gauges, height gauges, optical comparators, and coordinate measuring machines (CMM).
Hands-on experience with CNC mills and lathes, including machine setup and changeovers.
Ability to perform quality inspections throughout the production process and work to tight tolerances.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience operating 5-axis DMG mills in a production or job shop environment.
Experience working with Citizen Swiss lathes.
Familiarity with GD&T principles and their practical application in machining and inspection.
Comfort working with job shop runs typically ranging from 20-70 pieces.
Ability to work with complex aerospace and defense components requiring close tolerances.
Willingness to participate in structured skill-level training and quality certification programs.
Interest in apprenticeship and continued technical education through external programs.
Why Work Here?
You will join a precision-focused organization that supports continuous growth through structured skill-level training, quality certifications, and an apprenticeship program with a local community college. The company values employees who contribute to critical aerospace and defense work and offers clear pathways to increase earnings through training and performance reviews. You will benefit from a culture that recognizes technical excellence, encourages ongoing learning, and provides shift premiums that reward flexibility in working non-standard hours.
Work Environment
The role is based in a job shop machining center serving the aerospace industry, producing complex parts in small to medium runs typically ranging from 20 to 70 pieces. Parts must meet very close tolerances, and GD&T, gauging, and precise measuring are central to daily work. Training will occur on 1st shift for approximately 30-90 days before transitioning to the assigned off-shift schedule. Available shifts include a 10-hour Monday-Thursday shift with a flexible start time between 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., and 12-hour shifts on off-shift schedules with associated shift premiums. The environment is centered around advanced CNC mills and lathes, including 5-axis DMG mills and Citizen Swiss lathes, with regular use of inspection equipment such as micrometers, calipers, gauges, optical comparators, and CMMs. Dress code is typical for a machining and manufacturing setting, emphasizing safety and practicality around industrial equipment.
