Summary This position is located within the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), at the VA Loma Linda Health Care System, Loma Linda, CA, in the Facilities Management Service serving as the Medical Center's Locksmith. The primary purpose of this Locksmith position is the installation, and maintenance of various mechanical and electronic security hardware. Responsibilities Major duties and responsibilities include but not limited to: Repairing, overhauls, modifies, tests and installs a variety of locking devices found on doors, and other secured locations throughout medical center; Maintaining security and locks for control medication carts; Duplicating keys and key locking mechanisms systems involving varying @types of locks and keyways; Installing and maintaining window and door lock mechanisms; Installing devices with features such as dual locking capabilities, mechanical interaction with timing mechanisms, combination locks or actuating mechanisms; Determining the application for installing and maintaining electronic locks and keying devices; Troubleshooting and repairing electronic locks and keying devices using electronic test and repair equipment; Determining, installing, and maintaining the correct door closer for a door size, weight, swing and operation; Troubleshooting and repairing or overhauling various @types of door closures; Maintaining records and logs for lock systems, key assignments, and related equipment; Determining components causing malfunctions or invalid readings; Performing related duties as required. Qualifications PHYSICAL EFFORT: Seldom requires lifting or carrying of items weighing in excess of 7 kilograms (15 pounds).Work assignments require standing, stooping, bending, and kneeling for prolonged periods and working in cramped and awkward positions. An incumbent is required to lift items weighing up to approximately 50 pounds and heavier weights with assistance. WORK CONDITIONS: Work is normally performed in a well-lighted, heated, and ventilated. Occasionally, work is done outside in inclement weather or in drafty and poorly lighted areas. Exposure to the possibility of cuts, bruises, scrapes, and brusies. Exposure to the possibility of burns while using acetylene torches, brazing torches and soldering irons.
