Job Description:

Demonstrates knowledge of techniques and treatment modalities for patients of varying ages, including neonate, pediatric, adolescent, and geriatric.

Follows best practices to reduce potential medication errors. Performs all duties and responsibilities for the assigned shift.

Documents all pertinent data on the patient's medical record after completing service.

Administers respiratory therapy treatments, understanding the purpose and possible side effects of each.

Demonstrates knowledge of oxygen delivery methods and equipment, remaining alert to possible side effects.

Follows departmental equipment sterilization procedures.

Sets up and monitors mechanical ventilators, including airway management and tracheal suctioning.

Performs arterial punctures to obtain blood samples for gas analysis, understanding complications and contraindications.

Assesses patient needs and tolerance for treatment, reassessing responses to therapy.

Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly, inspecting and testing to ensure functionality.

Formulates and evaluates teaching plans based on patient learning needs, including family involvement as appropriate.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of health care field and medical terminology [Required]

Expertise in patient advocacy and navigating complex systems [Required]

Ability to function and assist others in stressful, fast-paced environments and effectively apply stress management techniques [Required]

Ability to resolve issues and work independently within the scope of their certification [Required]

Ability to exercise sound judgement, diplomacy, and a professional demeanor [Required]

Demonstrates ability to communicate by reading, writing and typing legibly, speaking and comprehending English effectively to carry out job requirements [Required]

Experience with computers [Required]

Critical thinking and patient assessment skills, with the ability to evaluate and modify plan of care [Required]

Ability to ensure infection control [Required]

Effective oral and written communication skills, including documentation in the patient care record (EMR), and ability to use and adapt to computer systems and applications [Required]

Airway management skills, including insertion and maintenance of a patent airway [Required]

Ability to provide optimal respiratory support including administration of oxygen and Heliox, administration of inhaled medications, lung expansion, and bronchial hygiene therapy [Required]

Ability to appropriately initiate, operate, manage, and liberate non-invasive and invasive modes of mechanical ventilation [Required]

Ability to perform ABG Puncture, analysis, arterial cannulation using sterile procedure, and hemodynamic monitoring [Required]

Ventilator patient transportation [Required]

Knowledge and skill to care for the pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patient in a health care delivery system [Required]

Prior use of electronic medical records (EMR) [Preferred]

Education:

Associate's [Required]

Field of Study:

in Respiratory Therapy or Cardiopulmonary Science

Work Experience:

1+ years experience as a respiratory therapist [Preferred]

Additional Information:

For Certified or Registered Respiratory Therapist: NBRC credential must be maintained as a condition of continued role eligibility.

All States : require NBRC for new hires, and incumbents

Florida Exception: legacy incumbents may continue working and may transfer within Florida without a NBRC active credential, subject to an approved, time -limited transition period.

Licenses and Certifications:

State Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) [Required] OR State Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) [Required]

Active NBRC Credentialed Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) [Preferred]

Active NBRC Credentialed Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) [Preferred]

Basic Life Support - CPR Cert (BLS) [Required]

Advanced Cardiac Life Support Cert (ACLS) [Required]

Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) [Required]

Pediatric Advanced Life Support Cert (PALS) [Required]

Pay Range:

$29.57 - $55.01
