The Senior Director, Planning, Design and Construction Program Management provides enterprise-wide leadership across the full capital project lifecycle from strategic planning, programming, and design through pre-construction, construction execution, and post-occupancy evaluation. This role ensures that capital projects are integrated, standardized, safe, compliant, financially responsible, and aligned with Cleveland Clinic's clinical, operational, and strategic objectives.
Serving as a senior leader within Buildings + Design, this position partners closely with executive, clinical, operational, engineering, construction, supply chain, and market leadership to deliver complex healthcare environments that support patient care, research, and education while advancing innovation, sustainability, and design excellence.
A caregiver in this position works days from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Lead enterprise-wide planning, programming, design, and construction program strategy for new construction, renovations, and major capital initiatives. Including pre-construction estimating, scheduling, construction execution, safety, quality, and post-construction closeout.
Ensure alignment between design intent, operational requirements, budget, schedule, and construction execution across all projects.
Serve as a primary senior-level liaison with executive, clinical, operational, and administrative stakeholders to translate strategic goals into built solutions.
Lead the development, approval, and governance of enterprise design standards, ensuring consistency across facilities, interiors, furnishings, and finishes.
Direct external architects, designers, engineers, and consultants to ensure compliance with design standards, codes, and organizational expectations.
Review architectural and engineering deliverables for quality, constructability, and alignment with clinical and operational needs. Ensure projects are delivered in safe, healing environments, meeting all regulatory, statutory, and compliance requirements.
Lead capital budget planning, forecasting, and cash-flow management across planning, design, and construction programs.
Develop and track metrics for quality, cost, productivity, and performance, providing executive-level reporting and recommendations.
Partners with Enterprise Risk to manage job-site safety and the Clinic's Owner Controlled Insurance Program.
Lead and develop multidisciplinary teams across planning, design, pre-construction, and construction program management. Foster a culture that attracts, develops, and retains top talent, inclusive of succession planning and workforce optimization.
Serve as a subject matter expert in contracting and procurement of design and construction services of building technologies, systems, and material. Partners with Supply Chain for furniture, fixtures and equipment procurement.
Represent the organization through industry engagement, presentations, publications, and partnerships that advance healthcare design and construction excellence. Maintains awareness and relationships of the local, national, and international marketplace.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or related field and ten years of progressive experience in planning, design, and construction of large-scale, complex capital programs, including senior leadership responsibility
Professional registration as a Professional Engineer or Registered Architect
Strong knowledge of complex building systems, (design, service and construction) contracting, and (local and national) market conditions
Commitment to innovation, continuous improvement, and service excellence
Strong financial acumen and experience managing budgets and operational metrics
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Master's Degree or MBA
Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), Evidence-based Design Accreditation and Certification (EDAC), American College of Healthcare Architects (ACHA), Certified Healthcare Constructor (CHC), Certified Healthcare Facility Manager (CHFM, or Certified in Healthcare Compliance (CHC), Project Management Professional (PMP) certificate
Healthcare and international experience
Demonstrated experience leading teams and managing major healthcare or institutional projects
Physical Requirements:
Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment.
Ability to perform work in a stationary position for extended periods.
Ability to travel to various locations throughout the health system and to move about construction sites in various degrees of completion.
Must have normal or corrected vision.
Must have own transportation due to travel to multiple sites.
Ability to travel domestically and internationally. The position requires a passport and/or the ability to get a passport within a reasonable time frame.

Pay Range
Minimum Annual Salary: $151,220.00
Maximum Annual Salary: $298,640.00
