Job Title: Shift Filler Operator
Position Summary
The Shift Filler Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and monitoring automated filling and packaging equipment to ensure the safe and accurate filling of pasteurized milk and other dairy products. This role plays a key part in maintaining product quality, ensuring proper labeling and weights, and supporting a smooth and efficient production flow in a refrigerated food manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Operate and monitor filling and packaging machines that perform functions such as filling, sealing, marking, and labeling containers.
Set up and start production equipment; oversee operation to identify irregularities or malfunctions.
Stop equipment when issues occur and promptly report concerns to a supervisor or foreman.
Adjust and operate a variety of filling machines, including:
30 Valve filler
Quart filler
Nep filler
Bulk filler
18 Valve plastic filler
½ Gallon paper filler
Ensure containers are properly placed, aligned, and positioned for accurate filling and sealing.
Inspect containers across all production lines for:
Proper seals
Accurate labels and dates
Correct weights
Valve integrity
Remove defective containers with leaks, stains, improper seals, or labeling issues from production.
Monitor product flow to prevent spills, overfills, and underfills.
Coordinate with the laboratory team to confirm approvals during product changeovers.
Record production and quality data every 15 minutes, including weights, dates, and labels.
Follow all food safety, sanitation, and quality procedures.
Assist with batching, packaging, and inspection processes as needed to support production efficiency.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Experience operating filling or packaging machines in manufacturing or food production.
Ability to monitor multiple production lines simultaneously.
Strong attention to detail when inspecting seals, labels, valves, and product quality.
Ability to identify and remove defective products from production.
Basic math skills for verifying weights, counts, and production data.
Basic computer skills for data entry and production tracking.
Strong observation skills to quickly detect equipment issues.
Effective communication skills for reporting problems to supervisors.
Ability to work in a refrigerated environment and around food allergens (including dairy, eggs, and nuts).
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience in dairy processing or food manufacturing environments.
Familiarity with batching, packaging, and quality inspection processes.
Experience working with multiple @types of fillers (valve, plastic, and paper).
Ability to adjust equipment for different product @types and container sizes.
Strong organization skills with the ability to maintain accurate records at frequent intervals.
Experience collaborating with quality or laboratory teams.

Work Environment
This role is based in a refrigerated food manufacturing facility. Employees will:
Work around dairy products and common allergens (eggs, nuts, etc.)
Operate near active production lines and moving machinery
Stand for extended periods
Handle containers and equipment in a cool-temperature setting
Strict adherence to safety, sanitation, and quality standards is required at all times.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Newport News, VA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.50 - $21.00/hr.
