Job SummaryDenver Health has an opportunity for a Dermatology Advanced Care Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) to join our Dermatology Clinic. The Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner will provide direct clinical care for patients in the Division of Dermatology. Works in close collaboration and communication with the unit's multidisciplinary team which includes Dermatology physicians and nursing. Involvement in the educational training of future providers as well as participation in academic endeavors and research are also options for interested providers.Essential Functions:
Diagnoses and treats diseases and disorders of the skin, hair, and nails. Monitors and evaluates medical condition of patient in collaboration with physicians when indicated. Refers patient to specialized services as needed. (20%)
Determines and assesses the health status of patients by reviewing records, taking comprehensive medical histories, and performing physical examinations. (20%)
Orders, performs, and interprets diagnostic tests; administers and prescribes treatments; performs surgical treatment related to the specialty of Dermatology including skin biopsies, excision of benign and malignant skin lesions, and intralesional injections; operates phototherapy equipment for treatment of photo-responsive skin disorders. (10%)
Completes required documentation thoroughly and in a timely manner. Prepares and maintains complete and accurate charts, case files and records. (10%)
Participates in clinical education of healthcare students as seen fit by the supervising medical staff. (10%)
May be assigned to perform lead work and/or involvement in clinical coordination or responsibility for special projects which may encompass protocol development, management planning, scheduling and other administrative tasks as necessary to support practice environment. (10%)
Attends and participates in administrative staff meetings. Utilizes the principles and practices of effective communication to elicit information, negotiate problem resolution, and/or garner support for various programs or policies. (10%)
Follows established departmental policies and procedures, quality improvement, safety, environmental and infection control standards. (10%)
Education:
Master's Degree Required (NP or PA)
Work Experience:
1-3 years related clinical experience Preferred
Licenses:
BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association or American Red Cross Required and
DEAREG-DEA Registration - DEA - Drug Enforcement Agency Required and
NP-Nurse Practitioner - DORA - Department of Regulatory Agencies Required or
PA-Physician Assistant - State Medical Board Required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of medical principals and procedures.
Knowledge of community resources for appropriate procedures.
Skill in eliciting history from patients, performing physical exams and formulating assessments of and treatment plans for patients.
Ordering appropriate diagnostic studies to aid in diagnosis.
Knowledge of appropriate administration and prescription of medications.
Skill in utilizing the principles and practices of effective and persuasive communication to elicit information, negotiate problem resolution, and/or garner support for various programs or policies.
Skill in obtaining information from patients, calming and reassuring patients and motivating patients to accept treatments.
Ability to exercise initiative andjudgment in selecting proper treatment.
Ability to respond appropriately in emergency situations.
Ability to prepare accurate reports.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments and the public.
Computer skills required - functionality with the electronic medical record.
