Description We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join a financial services organization in St. Petersburg, Florida. This contract opportunity with permanent potential is ideal for someone who enjoys balancing transactional accounting with analysis and month-end support in a deadline-driven environment. The person in this role will contribute to payment processing, reconciliations, financial reporting support, and special assignments while helping maintain accurate general ledger activity.

Responsibilities:

Manage day-to-day accounts payable disbursements and help ensure payments are processed accurately and on schedule.

Review and complete quarterly commission payment requests for agents, confirming proper documentation and timely submission.

Process employee travel and business expense reports while maintaining compliance with internal accounting procedures.

Prepare monthly close workpapers, record journal entries, and track accrual and prepaid activity to support an efficient close cycle.

Reconcile general ledger accounts and investigate variances or unusual items to maintain complete and accurate financial records.

Develop supporting schedules for financial statement preparation, including analyses of budget-to-actual fluctuations.

Compile reports and account detail for management review related to losses paid and miscellaneous agent receivable balances.

Participate in ad hoc accounting assignments and assist with process-related improvements as needed. Requirements - Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a comparable field of study.

2 to 4 years of accounting experience with exposure to account reconciliations, general ledger review, and accounts payable processing.

Demonstrated accuracy and strong attention to detail across financial tasks, documentation, and reporting.

Ability to manage multiple priorities, stay organized, and meet established deadlines in a fast-paced setting.

Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively across teams and with management.

Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Teams, and intermediate-level Excel skills, including maintaining and updating complex spreadsheets.

Experience working with accounts payable and general ledger systems; familiarity with expense reporting platforms is preferred.

Working knowledge of accounting functions such as journal entries, month-end close, bank reconciliations, and related financial support activities.
